Does anyone know a source of parts for these motors? I've tried Pete's Hobbies and Graves but neither
have a handle on the part? I'm rebuilding this motor (it runs very well) and found bearings easily enough
but the connecting rod seems to be very hard to find. It's the ABC variant.. The OS part number is: 24805408..

thanks,
S.

The 40 FSR engine uses the same rod as the 35-40 FP series and also the 40LA series engine. Most hobby shops can order the part from Great Planes Model Distributors.

You must know something OS doesn't..

The part number for both the 40FP and 40LA connecting rod is: 24005000

For the 40 FSR ABC it is: 24805408

Very different. Unless you have some sort of technical service bulletin that says its the
same that you can refer me to.

obliged, S.

The FSR was a heavy duty dual-bearinged engine. I doubt rather seriously it has the same con rod as the lightweight, bushed FP and LA.

Try PetesRC@aol.com

If anyone has one, he will. It might take a few days for him to respond to your query, so be patient.

I have the empty package from OS that is marked part # 24805408. Also on the package is a listing of engines it fits. (35FP, 35FP-S, 40FP, 40FP-S, 40FSR ABC, 45FSR, 45FSR-H, 45FSR ABC.) The rod used by the FP is also used by the LA today. Which means it will also work in the FSR.

Try MECOA.com. Their engine is an EXACT copy of the O.S. FSR .40 and all parts interchange.

Hi guys, sorry to "hijack" this thread for my selfish purposes but I´m currently desperately looking for:
1) piston ring(s) for OS 45 FSR engines(have many, ringed and ABCs)
2) spares for OS 40 FSR(have many here too, ringed and ABCs)

I was intrigued by the statement that MECOA has a clone of OS40FSR - is there a 45FSR clone too...??

BTW, I think MrMotor is quite correct about the conrod since some other FP parts are also compatible with the older FSR series.

If you think my inquiry above is misplaced - sorry - if so you can e-mail me if you will...thanks in advance and Cheers/Harald

thread hijacking carries the penalty of 12 lashes with a limp nyrod

for the rings you may as well look up frank bowman, great rings at a fair price. a quick search will get you his email and phone number

I'm not sure that it follows that:

1) since 24805408 fits 40 FSR ABC and 40 FP, and
2) 40 FP and 40 LA now use the same connecting rod,

that

3) 24805408 may be replaced by the 40 LA rod

Dimensionally they might fit, but perhaps the 24805408 is beefier (able to withstand
the higher rpms generated by the 40 FSR ABC). So the same rod could fit both
motors but be unsuitable for the 40 FSR ABC.

Do you have a parts sheet listing
the 40 FP using the 40 LA rod? Also, the 40 FP designed may have been changed
(the 40 FSR came in both ringed and ABC versions and used different rods, for instance).
Remember my 40 FSR ABC is 24 years old.

I'm wondering why OS didn't tell me about this when I asked for the part.

The 40 FSR ABC rod wasn't that beefy in the first. Some people, in the 70's, modified rods for the Supertigre G21 35 to fit the OS as the OS wasn't bushed. If I remember correctly all that was needed was to hone the lower end slightly to make it fit. Today's rod is probably beefier than the original.

The FP/LA rod looks pretty strong to me, and it's bushed on both ends, too.
