I got mine's from rc-expert.com
after fine tuning, it's hovering very good.
and most parts are the same as hornet 2. only the servo mounts are different.

I also really liked this heli when I saw it, even though I have never touched a collective pitch heli (micro or otherwise) and have only 'sort of' flown my fixed pitch Aero Hawk - though it should be flyable again as soon as I get my tail rotor blades in.

My question is, if I follow Radd's School of Rotary Flight instruction manual as closely as possible, do you think I should be able to learn how to fly a Dragonfly 22A CCPM without utterly destroying it (taking all reasonable precautions of course)?

If the consensus among you more experienced flyers is that I should stick to FP helis, I think I'll probably get an EP Caliber M24 instead of the Dragonfly 22A CCPM.

I'm not that experienced, but I learned on an Esky 3D indoors. (some prior experience in RC, but I essentially learned helis from scratch with this) I basically followed Rudd's approach by keeping it on the ground for a while and learning each element well before moving on. The coaching principle is called "primacy in learning", which means learn the right thing first time in the right sequence. The idea is to learn basic skills properly without developing bad habits that need to be "unlearned" later.
From what I read, flying a CP is easier, but building, adjusting and fixing after crashing is easier on a FP.
My damage list: 2 sets main blades, 4 tail rotors, 1 tail motor (now DD), 1 ball link on blade grip (CA fixed).
No breakages for last 5 charges, can now hover out the whole pack so long as brain is not tired!

I got mine from rc-expert.com and have to say I'm not happy at all. First they screwed up my order and refused to send me 2 items that I paid for then the damn heli is broke. The pin that holds the rotor head to the shaft and keeps it from slipping was never installed. The head has to much slip in it to even hover. If you want to deal with rc-expert.com go right ahead but I wont. Customer satisfaction rateing is 0 with me..

I ordered a Dragonfly 22a, but got a "Walkera with 3D aerobatic capable". I also have the same problem with a pin coming out, except mine is in the tail. I fixed it by driving different office supply pieces in the hole (ie paper clips, tacks, 0.7 mm lead etc.) until I got the right fit. The company I ordered from also failed to send the training kit that was included. Oh yeah I did get a blank CD, Im still trying to figure out what to use that for. Be careful what you order.......

@wicked504

May I ask, what kind of brand did You expect to get.
When looking at pictures, only, of the heli´s it seem to
be the same.

But how does this thing fly? Not many seems to have any experience!

I think the most reliable place to get the 22a from is hobby japan 2000 and yes the parts fom the hornet 2 will fit if
you get the kit with its own radio system and wana chang to a better radio I think you will have to chang the
recever pack I think it runs on some funky different band that will not work with better radio's But hey thats what ive been seeing with alote of researching I have a humming bird with a g10 frame eflight brushless setup and hitech eclipse 7 and im tired of burning out tail motors even the high athority motors so im looking int hobby japan 2000 and geting the bone kit 22a and using my electronics from the hummingbird

I order mine from an 3bay seller called R/C specialist, but I also ordered 2 of the Dragonfly 22d from RC-EXPERT on 1/3/05 and still have not got them in yet. I did get in touch with them and they seem to have some sort of back order because of the holidays. I was able to get a tracking number and looks like they were shipped on 1/8/05. Yours may be in that shipment also.

Suc:
I still need to do some adjusting, trimming (what ever you call it), but I got it to hover a little. I have had a JABO II FP for about 2 months and learned how to fly that one. This Walkera (Dragonfly 22a) is a little different, the faster head speed makes it a little more harder to control. If everything holds up, I might get some of the Hornet 2 mods.

My advise for anyone buying one of the mini helicopters....avoid buying these cheap versions, your going to spend just as much or more trying to fix the little pieces of #$%*.

bluedragon:
the one from Hobby Japan 2000 looks like the same one I just ordered, I never noticed this but the pictures are different from the real Dragonfly 22a

Has anyone had problems with the gyro of the Dragonfly 22A. Mine keeps spinning to the left as soon as it takes off. I am new at this and this is my first heli. I have crashed twice due to this problem. After repairing it with Hornet parts, I received the gyro instructions from RC-Expert. I carefully followed the instructions and boom, crashed again. I don't know if it is me or a malfunctioning heli. What is exactly the function of the telebee gyro? Isn't it supposed to keep the nose pointing in one direction? Can someone explain what the A-B switch is and how does it works. I am going to repair it for the last time, need to buy the main rotor blades. And I really want to correct this problem before I attempt to hover again. Are all gyros the same thing? Which one is the best gyro for the micro helis (Futaba GY240)?

I was thinking about upgrading to a CP heli but don't have enough "resources" to purchase a Trex or a zoom so the 2 choices I have are DF 22A or E-Sky 3D. I have mixed feelings about the esky due to some ppl having problems but on the other hand I haven't heard much about the quality of the df 22a. Please let us know about the quality of the heli and how well it flies. Thanks

There are two things can cause the d22 to spin to the left.
1) The DELAY setting is too low. YOu have to increase the DELAY clock-wise in order to reduce the spinning to the left.
2) There's not enough pitch on the tail rotor.

Here is my review:
I bought this heli because I was tired of replacing tail motors on my JABO II FP, but it seems that this tail drive system is even worst. I fist had the problem of the tail not counter acting the force of the main blade, so I glued the tail shaft to both gears on both sides. This worked and I was able to hover. I decided to take the heli outside on a windless day. Some grass (short) stopped the tail blade from spinning and I sheard the tail shaft.

Its alot easier to replace a tail motor than to replace the tail shaft. If I was to buy another cheap helicopter, I would most likely got with the Honey Bee 2.

This helicopter isn't that bad. Just don't tighten the screws on the tail blades; allow them to retract when they hit something. For extra protection, you can use the clear plastic cover to make a canope and the tailblade shroud.

JohnY2004 Thanks thats a good idea (tailblade shroud)...I think its a hit or miss with these helis my brother just opened his 22d today and I pretty much had it hovering right out the box. As for my 22a and my friends 22d we have had nothing but problems.

hello all!
well i received my dragonfly (walkera) 22a 6ch ..... last week. I have had a little experiance of helicopters, so i was surprised with my first flight! after a lovely hover, the whole thing went mental, resulting in quite a crash. I know i'm not that bad a flyer so after a lot of super glue and 2 part epoxy the thing was back together, closely went over the whole thing. Its a fairly clever and simple setup. the carbon blades are heavier and longer than the standered, this results in quite a high head speed, lots of stored energy. might work outdoors well, not had the chance with the crappy english weather. But bingo, found the problem, those clever guys at hobbyjapan2000 had installed the giro in the total wrong place, and upside down! so with this rectified i tried again!

The flight was superb, the model is fairly stable but quite twitchy, plenty of power (battery lasts for ages) it is tricky to fly and i would not recomend this for the complete novice. the higher head speed means more damage in a crash, my friend has the standered dragonfly and its much more robust but not as smooth in flight. you can repair most things with superglue, and if you really have to repair something the ms hornet is very similar so buy these parts. dont bother getting anything from hobbyjapan, they either will not send the parts, or will not have them. the ms hornet parts are supperior and stronger and far more easily available.

The next thing i will replace is the awful radio system, put in a futaba receiver, and a BEC speed controller, i already have a ccpm transmitter so no problem. Not saying that the standered gear is bad, but it a'int good! this will resolve glitches and smooth out controls.

This is not a bad heli, in the right hands i'm sure it will fly inverted, but i dont trust it yet! also check the C of G, i think its to far back which will make the heli more twitchy. needs to be right under the rotor head, and mine is not.

Unless you have a house the size of the queens dont bother with indoor flight, you need space to fly this, it sounds great when fully wound up.

Well can not think of anything more, any questions please ask i will try and help, and i will let you know how i get on. At the end of the day, you get a lot of helicopter for the price, its smooth vibration free, and when trimmed right, will fly well.

Regards
Rob

Yes i did spot that, about 2/3 mm in play i did put a couple of bushes in place to stop this movement, But had to order new parts (hornet parts) today due to ANOTHER CRASH. Now stripping out all radio gear and putting in decent stuff, and i expect in 6 months time the heli will be complete Hornet parts.

Should of saved myself the hassle and just bought one!

Still i have had some good flights out of it.
The costomer support at Hobbyjapan2000 is crap to say the least by the way. how you getting on with yours?

Yes customer service at hobbyjapan is there but not very useful, they are now saying they not responsible as only the resselr for walkera, but i have not recieved a reply since i ask what part do they play if someone get injured by one of these due to obvious design flaw that has been pointed out to them after they call it a design feature!.

ok whats the deal......

Tried to use my jr pcm9 on 35mhz to get rid of the crappy tx.. the heli is on 35mhz, or at least it has a sticker to say so.

it doesnt seem to work.

I've set it to ppm and i've used all combinations of crystals. is there some form of throttle speed controller failsafe or something.

Al I get is the flashing LED and no servo movement
