That switch on the top left side? well it does nothing , if you take the transmitter apart youll find it not wired to anything!

I have 5 differant mini electric hellis, they are all flying....but it wasnt easy I have almost 30 years model and rc experance and found It quite a chalenge! the fixed pitch helies can fly very well if you make a few modifications, I can hover my dragonfly over a 5 gallon pail ,and land on it . tail motors , I burned out 4 before I put a balast resistor in series with it and have had no more problems. there are many mods needed to make these things fly well. Iv never had one that flys well out of the box! these machines are amazing ,not everyone will have the skills to deal with them.I dont think they can appreciate how diffacult it is to make a helicopter fly. The 22a is great , once you set it up. if youv never fown a heli start with a fixed pitch , and modify it untill it flys hands off..4 second or so . If you can do this youv learned enough to move on to collective pitch systems.

new poster here, hope you don't mind helping a new lectric heli hopeful.

Out of the box, new 22a has the elivator/alieron controls swapped. left/right TX stick movement move the swash forward/backwards, forward/backwards TX stick movement moves the swash side to side.

the mixing between the three swash servos is what has me confused. though the RX channels are marked and described in the instructions, the mixing makes it very confusing.

I guess I should also ask about the dip settings on the TX in case something is set wrong there. Its correct compared to the instructions....but

thanks all,

Maybe I described that backwards......forward backward/side to side movement.....suffice it to say that with the paddles facing front to back (one over tail, one over nose) forward/backward stick movement does not move the paddles. paddles set side to side with blades over the tail and nose, forward/backward stick movement moves the paddles. The opposite is true for side to side stick movement.

What is the servo to RX connection setup? could something be setup wrong in the TX, either in the dips or interanally?

The mixing eliment is making my brain hurt.

thx

OK, got that figured out.

next question....

the rotor blades are not both tracking on the same plane. I used tape to get them on the same track but then the ballance is off of course and lots of vibration resulted (removed tape). None of the associated connector rods are adjustable...

how do you make the blades track in tandem?

Well.....got the tracking takin care of. got the heli trimmed about as well as the POS electronics will allow for.

Hovered in my basement....28' X 34' for a few seconds after squirling it around on the floor for about 15 min. Rather unstable due probably to the glitches in the servo's.

Went to a gym last evening and got a better hover but glitches are making me real tense. One in particular where the ESC is actually gunning the motor in flight. Its real quick but 10 feet in the air is alot more than I was planning for...and all of a sudden too. got it back down about fourty feet away. the fall from a foot at the end of that excitement is what made it loose one tooth on the main gear that drive the tail shaft. Thank god for the hours I spent on the flight sim in the last two months.

Today at lunch......

US $240 for a new JR tx/rx & servo's

US $50 for a new Castle Creations pegasus 35p ESC

My d22a came with the pg 03 so I already had the gyro (for what its worth....still "searches" after sugnificant try's to adjust)

So......US $190 for the heli with 1800 lipo and pg 03 gyro, two sets of training gear, crash kit (including $45 shipping)
US $240 for a radio that works (still to be seen if it helps the heli work....can only improve it)
US $50 for seperated ESC (replacing the original rx/mixer/ESC forced me to go seperates....can't just replace rx and servos)

got an order in for US$ 60 in new/spare parts.

History after arrival on Saturday (four days ago) - Two servo's found swapped at RX, gears to tight, blades too tight, one servo screw loose, blades tracked a 1/2 inch apart, After three battery charges and lots of tinkering, measuring angles, etc..... we had lots of little hops, a short hover in my basement. a few longer hovers in the gym. Main gear still works but you know its going south soon with one tooth already gone, and were now into this for $550 +/-.

Hopefully good electrics will make a difference. The d22a is certainly a cool little machine but your just getting started spending $$ getting the stock boxed unit to your door. More later when I get the new electronics installed.

If you are into your upgrades on your 22A you will find this is an excellent one. You can get an anodized aluminum swashplate of the Century Hummingbird, from Ebay. 911heroes. for about £22. or $42. Or you can buy it from, www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/acatalog/HeliSprs_Hummingbird.html for £27.99. or $53. (code number CNE259) As apposed to £65 or $124. for the original Hornet upgrade part. You will have to buy 5 X 3.85mm swash-plate linkage balls to replace the balls that come on the swash-plate for £3.69 or $6.99. I got mine from www.microheli.com (code number MH-021AL) The only thing you will have to fit is the antirotation bars, I drilled two 2mm holes into the servo mount frame (vertically) the same width as the pin on the swash-plate, then I glued two 2mm carbon fiber rod about 20mm or 3/4inch long into the servo mount. It looks and works great.
If any body can tell me how to put pictures on this page I will show the mods. Jeff.

This is a bit cheeky really but get the original Hornet manuals from the MS Composit website.

I hope someone can help. I have a D22a.

How do you get the pins for the head and main gear out of the main shaft?

I need to replace the pin in the head and replace the main gear.

thanks all

i just got one of these dragonfly helis, pretty big p.o.s. i opened the box and the controller was broken, and had something rattling inside of it. the right stick's horizontal axis wouldnt return to center and was not smooth at all. i tried to fly any way... put it in the grass outside my house and gave it some throttle, and the tail dug into the ground. so the main gear stripped and the tail drive shaft sheared. took it inside and held it while giving it throttle, and noticed that the rotors were pusing air upwards... so that is why the tail dug in and broke the drive components. it was no in 3d mode, so the air should always be pushed downwards. when you tilt the rotors in certain directions, the rotor rpm slows considerably. also it came with plastic blades, not the carbon fiber promised by the website. i am trying to return it and get my money back. i do not recommend this helicopter.

Unfortunately you learned the hard way. what we have been trying to say in these forums is do not assume that the heli will be ready to fly out of the box. if you had taken the time to see what the controls were going to do you could have saved yourself alot of trouble. no problems because many others have done the same. the fact that your transmitter was broken on arrival was a bad sign for sure. it could have been packaged that way or it could have sustained a hard bump during shipping. if you want to pursue flying this brand of helicopter and are willing to take the time before hand to read alot and get the help of experienced fliers (which i am not ) you will have tons of fun with these things! when someone buys one of the walkera helicpoters new (or any brand for that matter) they need to verify that all the parts are in good shape and put together correctly. this includes having the helicopter setup correctly for flight. I hope you are able to get past the first bad experience and give it another try.
