Ok guys, I have an Edge that I bought from Tom and a ZDZ 50 NG which I got from him on sale. I haven't started itas I'm a poor college student but I'm about to have a job plus a nice tuition rebate since I'm about to graduate. I really want the Extra 300 Speical to. So what I was thinking about doing is putting the ZDZ in the Extra and getting a G62 from B&B for the Edge. I'd put the digitals in the Extra and probably just Hitec 5625's or 645MG's in the Edge. I'm more of a sport flier that wants to do some 3D and I'm thinking about trying my hand at IMAC which I would use the Extra for. What do you guys think?

IMAC the Extra, 3D the Edge. Either one for a lot of fun.

A few guys had issues with the MPI switches over the last year so you might want to consider something else. I really like the Smartfly switches myself, they look like the MPI switches but have heavier contacts and wire used in their construction.

http://www.smart-fly.com/Products/Switch/switch.htm

As for the smoke muffler I think Slimline is raping us with them. I have seen the standard pitts on a DA 50 with a smoke nipple installed smoke just as well as the smoker pitts so I can't understand the difference in price other than it being a gimmick.

Other than those 2 concerns everything else seems to be on track.

Welcome to the club.

I have this Futaba Heavy Duty Switch Harness w/Charge Cord that came with my 9Z radio and DSC/Charge harness.
I think it should work fine or should I need a better switch?

Gassers shake the airframe pretty hard so any switches you use should be the HD variety. I really like the idea of using 2 switches and 2 smaller packs rather than a single switch and one big pack to power my big planes.

Considering that switches are probably the most failure prone peice of RC gear it doesn't hurt to err on the side of caution, especially when you have $1600-2000 on the line.

There is no need to purchase a special smoke muffler for a gas engine. If the engine has an included muffler, or if one is purchased separately, it only requires that a nipple to have been, or be, installed somewhere close to the inlet on the muffler.

Gas engines produce a lot more heat that glow motors and therefore do not require any pre-heating coils inside the muffler. If you pruchasing a specialized muffler for the introduction of smoke oil to the exhaust intending to produce a better effect, it's not going to happen. Once you have a gasser with a nippple on the muffler you already have as good as it gets.
