I do too..Just in case...The AMA rule book has been changed a couple yrs ago to read: Your name and address "OR" your AMA # must be in "OR" on your model...It used to say 1 inch tall or taller AMA # on top of right wing panel...Brian

AMA sells a neat little package of stickers that you can use to post your name, address and phone no.on you model. These come with a clear plastic shield over them to protect them from oil dirt, etc. The pack sells for about a buck I think. The best place to post these are under the wing, center section.

The next time you receive your copy of Model Aviation in the mail, peel of the address label and stick that inside your plane.

It has your name, address and AMA number all pre-printed for you!

One caveat: I know of a case in which a model was kept by an otherwise well-meaning finder because he didn't know to take the wing off to find the label. The finder may not know what the AMA number means, either. On a sport plane, I put a clear address return label on the fuse under the stab or under the stab itself, where almost no one sees it, unless they are looking for some i.d. John

I understand John...I got one for you...I lost a sailplane, just got too high and I lost sight of it.. A man found it and just put it in his garage..."UNTILL" he saw my offer of a reward in the newspaper ..Told me he saw my name and phone # all along on the model... Just put forth no effort till it came to money.. Cute Huh?? Human nature is I guess that money still talks....Brian

PS...I'm still glad I got it back...

Thanks Paul,

I don't even remember where I first heard this tip. It certainly wasn't something I came up with, but when I heard it I thought of how simple and effective it is.

I use the nice labels sold by the AMA. I think they cost $1.25 for ten. They're more than just your name and address... they say something about the plane being an experimental aviation model, and not to surrender it to anyone until they show proof of identification. The way it's all written, I think it betters the odds of the finder attempting to return it.

Happy New YEar!

Here is a tip if you are building an airplane.

If you have a laser printer(xerox copy will work also) you can print your name and address on a piece of paper. Then lay this face down on a piece of wood in your airplane. Use a iron (monokote iron will work) and iron the name into the wood. Looks just like you burned it in with a wood engraver. Place it in a few hideaway places. Then cover with epoxy or some other fuel proof clear paint.

Hey Magnum,

Wouldn't this mean that the name and address would be backwards?

You don't want to give the person that finds your plane any excuse for not returning it.

"Oopps, I couldn't read the name and address because it was backwards. So sorry I couldn't return it
