Heres a crude sketch of what I'm talking about.

This would give me a double tapered tail (I think that is the correct term).

Dave,

If I understand you correctly, you would end up with sweep, but
no taper. To taper the stab, you need to make the chord at the
tip smaller than at the root.

Gotcha, would the sweep be beneficial at all?

I have the only coordinates for the R-140 airfoil, as I drew it. The original and smoothed on that wed site were taken off plans, but they are not correct. Some one at Great Plane's Models tried to duplicate the airfoil. Its close.

Dave,

Generally, I wouldn't expect the sweep to
have any benefit.

$10 sounds very low. I'm a programmer of CNC machines and have work with them for about 25 years. So I can say that there is no problem to
machine out the profile you want if you found one with the right tools. But it takes very long time to machine 3d path. Because you using a round tool
and break the tool path into very small movements. To machines this would probably take a couple of ours so maybe $100-200 would be more accurate.

Daven, I am a CNC programmer in MN. I am new to RC but am pretty good milling, even 3d and would like to learn more about how to build Planes. I am currently starting to build SAPDS that do not require CNC work but I may do some to dress them up a bit in the future.

Give some good details about what you want and I can see what I can do. I can get machine time but it is a little hard to plan a specific time to use them.

I have also been looking into getting some personal CNC equip to play with. If there is an interest in these sort of things it may give me the boost I need to pull the trigger.

Contact me offline at quickee500@yahoo.com

I am in no means an expert, just curious about milling a V-Tail out of contest balsa.

Thanks for your interest.

There may also be interest in CNC milling props for Q40 use. There was a local guy that did this a couple years ago, but he has sold out his portion of the business. If I remember right, those props were going for about $35 each.

Phil Pearson is a member of the local soaring club. His cnc machined foam cores are beutifull. Why not cnc foam and use glass skins like the glider guys do? Same as bagging balsa just a little heavier glass. Look at the charles river rc club site. In the building secton look at the super gee discus launch stuff. Mark Drela gives alot of good information about building foam core tails. There are also some good articles there about sanding acurate airfoils.
