I want to get an indoor electric heli. Should I get the CP Picollo or the CP Hornet?

I had a Picollo , it was way to fragile and req'ed to many mods to make it fly half way descent, the Hornet from what I see is a much better choice.

The Hornet has a variable pitch tail rotor just like nitro helis, whereas the Pic has a separate motor to drive the fixed pitch tail. Yaw control on the Pic is less responsive because you have to vary the RPM of the tail rotor to produce yaw. The Pic is thought to be a bit more crashworthy than the Hornet, and is also said to be easier to get in the air out of the box. However, interms of pure performance and potential, the Hornet seems to be the winner. I have a Hornet and I must say, it takes a lot of fiddling to get it flying. If you accept this as part of the fun and challenge, and you think it's worth some extra effort to get this spectacular little machine flying in your living room, then I'd get the Hornet. If you have a low tolerance for fiddling and frustration, the Pic would probably be the better choice. They both fly well.

I would strongly consider the Lite Machines Corona 120. For $199.00 you can't go wrong. I just finished mine and it flys like a dream. Only 30 inch blades, so it can be flown in a school gym or do what I do and go crazy outdoors. Good luck in your search.

Matt, what problems are you having?

If you listed them on a thread, others could help you get in the air. There is some very experienced fliers here that are willing to help out.

Thank you Brad,

I use,
GWS receiver, Hitec-55 servos, and Ikarus gyros, and NiCad 8 cell 720 mah.

The first time, i rried to use b rushless "mini 16 turn" from hobby-lobby and Jetti 18-3p speed controller. the hornet not even left up. so i think i should go back to the stock motor.

after i changed to stock motor and Jetti 10 speed controller, i got up in the air about 2 inches.

Form my innocent knowledge about e-heli, i think the Jetti is too heavy (isn't it ????) and the Nicad battery is not a good one. What is your opinion ???

do you think i should go to Hacker brushless motor, Pheonix 10 speed controller and hitec HS-50 servos ???

one more problem is that the pinion gear at the motor sharft always stripped and loosen. sometime, the motor got push up to the front (maybe by vibration) and the main gear (E002) does not bite with the pinion gear.
one more thing, i am in Colorado which has altitude of about 6000 ft..... so this might contibute to another air density problemm here.

Thank you very very very much

matt

RUN, don't walk, over to the hornet group at:

http://www.hornet-heli.com/cgi-bin/bbs/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro

There is alot of info and people to get you into the air.

The motor mounting holes need to be elongated alittle so the motor/pinion will engage enough with the main gear. Make sure your screws are tight.

Hopefully you mean you are using 8 x 720 NiMH pack instead of the Nicad? Have you slow charged them at C/10 for 14 hours first? Then you need to cycle them a few times before they will get to full capacity.

The stock motor and HS55 are fine for now. Unless you want to spend the money on the brushless and smaller servos.
