with an OS 61fx, pitts exhaust, 5 3151s, and standard nicads, she comes out at 7lbs.... Have not flown it yet, though have taxi'd around some to work in the engine and work out any bugs. Im encouraged however by ifixairplanes's review on how it flys...

Mine is done and hope to maiden today if my schedule will allow. Kind of hectic. Don't have the wait but if you install a .61 FX be sure to mount sideways and not inverted. Would do it differently next time. Really like the quality of the kit and construction but the base yellow covering stinks. I've ironed the wrinkles out 20 times with my iron and a heat gun and they keep coming back. Any help?

The few wrinkles that have developed in mine wont go away with an iron either. The larger wrinkles turned into a bunch of little wrinkles. I left it like that, can't see them in the air!

I reall can't wait to get out and fly again. I have only gotten 1 flight with her. The new england weather has me beat though. We have a big snowstorm coming this weekend, may be a while before I fly mine again. I don't want to take the wheels off and put skies on, so I may need to wait until the snow melts.

Ya, I'm with you. I don't think it got above 20° this week and now they say we are going to get 6"- 8" of fresh snow tonight. It may be a while before I can maiden mine.

ok.... well I got to fly mine today.... with the saito 100 I had to move the battery up front to get it to balance.....but it pulled it pretty well flew most the time at hallf throttle....didn't want to stress it to much first time out...it jumped off the ground...had a real nice roll rate and held a real nice knife edge with no bad tendencies. I have to do some tweaking but I think this is going to be a nice flying bird! Then we had a front move in a mean wind kicked up so I didn't get any video...Will try again when the wind dies again.

I flew mine today as well. Very nice indeed. I also toned it down for the first flight but man this thing really does fly very nice, controls are razer sharp and quick. I kept the speed up for landings but I think I should be able to slow it down some without any wierd stall tendencies. Its very rock solid. Vertical on an os 61 fx is fantasitic! More than you could ever ask for on a little plane like this. The maiden flight was videotaped so I will post it when I get it into the computer. Can I post videos?

Hey Scaleman.... yes I slowed mine way down and it didn't tip at all...I don't think you can post videos you have to host then yourself and link to them. But you are right this thing is solid! and you can imagne the vertical with the 100 on it!

I am glad to hear that you all have had them up, with good results...I have never flown a Cap before, because all I ever hear is how crappy they are, like how they snap, and that they have to be landed with the speed up.....but mostly how its a very "snappy" plane to fly. I am looking forward to putting mine together............Thanks for the reports guys....

Scaleman, how did she balance out with the 61FX? Did you have to add any weight?

Hey John and scaleman thanks for the report. It's good to hear she flies that well. I'm still digging out from the foot of snow that fell last night, so I don't no how long it will be to get my 580 up. Oh well I guess I will just keep waiting and looking at it up on my plane rack with the rest of my planes. I'll just have to put a little more time in on the sim to get my fix -- ha ha ha

TOFAST4U2C

it balanced right at 3 1/2" from leading edge without any extra weight.

BlenderBender

oh that vertical on a 100 must be just breathtaking! Especially being a 4 stroker...

Hey Scaleman,

Could you elaborate a bit on how this plane performed with the 61 up front. Still trying to decide what engine I should use.
OS 61, OS 91 or Saito 82. Decisions .. Decisions.

Later.

ScaleMan, Only thing I can figure on the balance is I used a saito aluminum mount instead of the one that came with the plane and it is right on the verge of the same placement as the stock mount and with the 100 3 1/2 inches and the battery up front it balanced perfect... with the battery behind the servos it was tail heavy...so the only thing different is the mount. Oh and I am going to have to put a bigger tank in it...flew for about 4 minutes and it was on "E" when I landed but it is a new saito and was rich ......but still it is a tiny tank for a 100. We got you guys in the northeast's cold front moving in today so the wind is whipping ..at least we won't get the white stuff you all did!

Hey everyone i just purchased this plane and was wondering about what motor to use. I though maybe the TT 91 4stroke. how do ya`ll think this would perform?

performance on a 61fx is fantastic, and you can fully cowl the engine. I can't say in regards to those other engines, but I would guess that a 90 or higher 4 stroke would send this thing to the moon...

I placed all electronics as per the instructions. I would guess that mount and 100 adds a bit more weight hence moving the battey forward to get it to balance. Flight time on the 61fx with stock tank was around 10mins....

I am glad to hear all of you got to fly your caps. RDMOORE, I would suggest the saito 82A. Even though it is a smaller C.I.D., its also lighter than the OS 91. You want to keep your wing loading as low as possible. But thats if the choice was only between those 2 engines. I am a fourstroke fan, so if given the choice I would put the 82 in. I had the .70 OS in mine laying around because I wrecked the plane it was in. Good thing is, the Matt Chap Cap is a much better flier then the GP extra 300s I had before it!

Hey guys, Tower has a short video of the plane up on the website now, thought some of you might want to check it out.

Also, I mounted my .61FX inverted (didn't get a pitts muffler but an inverted instead so I had too). Don't do it...had to cut out a good chunk of the bottom of the cowl. Looks great from a distance but not as good as a fully cowled.

I'm having a problem with the center line of the prop hub. It's not lined up in the center of the motor and I'm thinking about relocatin the engine down about 3/8" to get it centered up. I'd have to replace the blind nuts and probably add some light ply. should I do it or forget about it? Really don't like the spinner off center.
