I 've been using a 4.8 volt battery pack for the receiver in all my glow planes. I'm installing a 6 volt battery pack for my receiver in a Funtana 90 and I need a 12" servo extension to hook the battery pack up to the on/off switch. Can I use a regular servo extension or does it have to be a heavy duty servo extension.

Thanks

Bravo

I use the standard wiring on 6VDC batteries. You could do a search and find the v drop on different size wire but for the length of run involved, load, duty cycle I do not worry about it.
(Did a lot of DC 12V wiring on my sailboat before getting into RC.....)

Bravo,
What is the servo count? Are they digital? Digital servos tend to draw current in peaks so as the battery is discharged you could be closer to the lower controlled voltage limit for the receiver than you think. Normal servos draw peaks also be they tend to be softer. Digital peaks can have quite fast rise times. This can result in glitching if your battery is low. What is the mAh rating of your battery? What's your style of flying? Do you tend to fly smooth or use lots of movement 3Ding?

I think heavy duty wiring from the battery (22 gage) and a heavy duty switch is a good safety precaution. Normal length and gage 12" to 16" servo extensions are fine but the extension from the battery and the switch carries all the loads not just one servo. Since the currents through the battery leads can add I'd be careful and use the heavy duty leads and switch with the premium connectors. It's just cheap insurance.

John
