HELP!!!

I just got AFPD w/ the futaba micro adapter (for my Futaba 6exa). I have a HP pavillion a287x w/ xp on it.
The program loaded ok, but my HP and AFPD won't recognize the controller that is in the USB port.

I can create a custom game controller but its not recognizing the usb port.
I tried adding usb drivers for HID to my system 32 driver folder and no luck.

I searched forum after forum and still can't find any advice on that subject. Most likely because it's not AFPD that's the problem, it's my HP that isn't configured to run game controllers on a USB port.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated

I'm not familiar with your model of computer but I've found on ocassion that USB devices that I plug into one port won't be recognized but if I use a different port they are. Go figure. So you might try that.

Thanks for the suggestion, however I already tried every port.

The computer tells me that it's an unknown device as soon as I plug it in any port (I have 3 usb ports).

USB's can be a problem. They are not all "plug and play" they are cracked up to be.

Have you at least tried putting the sim on another computer? Or just plugging it in to another computer and going to the control panel/joysticks and see if it can recognize it there?

You don't need to load the program to view the cable.

Did you get free tech support on your HP? If so call them and try to diagnose the problem on the USB. I'd like to help, but I don't have a HP troubleshoot sheet.

But it is Windows 98 USB version, there are 2 versions? You need an XP machine to really test this.

What about any other USB devices.

The machine I really want to run AFPD on is the HP pavillion w/ xp on it. (See 1st message in this thread) On both of my machines the USB ports will work with a mouse, so I know they are working. Just can't figure it out. Is anyone running AFPD on a HP w/ xp???

I'm just trying to help you eliminate possibilities. If you can get the controller working on an XP machine we've dropped the possibiliy of it being the controller.

Do you have windows XP SP2 installed?

Hi buranich,

You might try booting into safe mode by pressing F8 upon restart and selecting Safe mode from the menu. Once in safe mode enter the device manager, this can be reached by right clicking on "My Computer" from the start menu or control Panel.
then click on hardware and then device manager.

In device manager under disk drives you may see "eUSB ***"
What you may really be looking for are any "?" symbols in yellow, which means that their drivers are not functionally compatible or are in conflict with something. Best to delete all such items. IF there are duplicate items listed that are completely identical then it is best to delete or uninstall all of the items that have duplicates. However, Avoid System devices and Universal Serial buss controllers, do not make changes to them.

But for duplicates uninstall all that you can find in the other sections of device manager.

The next best thing you may look for are driver updates for your mother board from the manufactures website.

P.S. Microsoft Updates often create new problems that did not exist before the update. The updates may fix some problems but very often they create new problems!!! Often updates and upgrades even cause hardware incompatibilities.

This has clearly been a deliberate means to force users to purchase new hardware and keep the money flowing in the general computer marketplace. Often this tactic has been cooperation with other hardware and software vendors who choose to not produce compatible drivers or updates for there earlier hardware/software in favor of forcing users to purchase the newer hardware/software.

I suggest that you unplug all USB hardware during this process.

Anyway, once you have removed all duplicates leaving none behind, restart your computer and let it find the hardware again and get it installed.

Once you have restarted and allowed all hardware to be found and reconfigured by the OS. Then and only then, plug in one USB device at a time untill it has been fully installed and become functional. If a restart is suggested, I would encourage you to restart before connecting any additional USB device.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I tried safe mode. No duplicates found
Updated usb driver ...no luck

"Unknown USB Device" is all I get

Seems like just need the right usb driver , but I tried downloading some joystick USB drivers and it didn't change anything.

I'm out of ideas
