Some of you need to re-read the forum posting rules. I have had to edit and delete several posts in this thread due to hurling insults and attempts at starting petty arguments.

FUNNY YOU SHOULD ASK... I have been bugging the guys at Werks Racing like no other. They keep saying that replacement pull starts will be out soon, but they still arent out. I also have a "pre-order" on one from RCBoyz. I talk to a person there frequently and they keep me updated with the situation. I haven't heard about any roto starts though.. but I did in fact make my own roto start. It works great! Here is a pic:

2 questions: How eaxctly did you make the rotostart fit the Collari backplate? (the bolt circles are different), and how did you modify the rotostart 12mm metal hex ring to drive the 11mm internal Collari oneway shaft? I pondered over attempting to mate my Savage rotostart backplate to the Collari .30, and without major machine work, it couldn't be done, even the Collari backplate spacing is way different than the Savage rotostart can handle.

Don't look at me. I just enhanced the foto to get a better look. I'm still waiting for lax195 to reply.

I am thinking that pic is a "show, but no go" pic. Reason being that is an HPI small block backplate with the shaft input at 9 O'clock. That is a Savage engine mount, so I am assuming that setup is for a Savage. Problem is the Savage shock tower won't allow you to insert the starting wand. Savage rotostart backplates have the wand inlet at 11 O'clock. Bummer, I was almost excited there for a second.

I agree, that backplate just don't look right.

I am using Integy aluminum shock towers and bulkheads so the shaft fits in PERFECTLY. The roto start works 100%. I sometimes have to take it off to clean it though. I am using this case: http://www.hobbieguyrc.com/catalog/hpi__12__15_roto_start_back_plate_complete_2945491.htm
and the gear set that comes with the stock roto start system. The only downside is that the backplate case isnt deep enough to cover the entire one way bearing assembly so I threw in some pieces of fuel line on the screws to keep the roto start assembly together.

Well thanks for the idea, but I don't have Integy shock towers (and am not going to purchase them just for rotostart compatibility), and with respect to that huge gap between the engine backplate, and the rotostart unit, that looks to me like an open door for dirt and grime to enter your engine. and roto gears. Sorry for the negitive input, but I will stick with the simple p/s for now.

O I am only using this design because my pull start broke and I wanted to run my engine. My pull start broke like 3 weeks ago (about a week after buying the engine) and I didnt want to wait 4-6 weeks to run it again so I made that.

This may be a dumb question but how would this motot rcompare to the O.S. Vz-b?

Easy- the OS VZB is a race-able engine. The Collari .30 is not race legal. Largest legal raceable engine is limited to .28.

I, like you, have been emailing Eric at Werks like crazy.
His last email leads me to belive that they will have the Roto-Start plate very soon.
I hope he's right, because my PS is unrepairable at this point. But it surprised me, how many times I was able to rebuild it. My last count was 21 times.
