hey guys. just got started with a savage 25 stock. Tore up that plastic gear for 2nd in the trans and put two pins in it and figured I'd try it not knowing this was the thing to do. Works great so far. Just purchased a savage SS w/ a SH.28 in it off ebay. Awesome deal to much to explain but have some problems in whish I hope someone could answer. Engine was just broke in so I'm told. I got'r fired up and it seemed excessively rich. Tried tuning it to no avail. Didn't get the engine book so Ihave no idea where base settings should be. Trans didn't want to shift to 2nd and when it did it sputtered like lean. Got that out and then seemed too fat down at idle. The only way to keep it idling was to turn the idle trim up to clutc engagement. Basically what I'm asking for are good base settings and are there sealing issues as mentioned on the collari? The trans issue I'm sure just relates to proper adjustment. Also I see where ofna makes a roto start backplate for the SH. Does it work I've heard conflicting stories. THanx for the help!

Hey guys just thought that I would tease you a bit and tell you to get a three speed trans if you have the Collari .30. Even with the Hot Bodies truckzilla tires, and 16/49 gears, my savage is nuts!!! get motor every impressed.

Hey lax195, thanks for rotostart conversion. I think that's a brilliant idea. I've read lots on the net about using that for a Sirio .27, and a some other engines. What you did is exactly what I had in mind, but I'm still waiting for my engine. It should get here next week. I got it from PPH Racing, and I live half-way around the world, all the way here in the Philippines, so it takes a while. Anyway, you seem to have a small issue with dirt due to the gap, since the backplate is shallow (where you used silicone fuel tubing). Here's what I was planning to do, maybe you can try it. I was planning to use the old pullstart casing to fill that gap. I was going to use a dremmel with a circular/disc cutter tool or any ordinary metal saw to cut off the bulging portion that houses the pullstart pulley. You will then be left with just the square base with the 4 holes for the screws very much intact. These holes will align perfectly with the 4 hex screws that go through the HPI .12/.15 rotostart backplate. So, you will have the square base (from the old pullstarter case) sandwiched (or in between) the engine and the HPI rotostart backplate. That might just keep the dirt out. Actually, you could even glue that plastic square base onto the HPI rotostart backplate and make it a joined one-piece backplate/cover. If you decide to try this, let me know how it goes. By the way... I was also planning on getting the Integy aluminum shock mounts, which allow more shock mounting positions/options. Maybe great minds do think alike. Hahaha! I've done some mods myself... out of necessity, and lack of parts support here in the Philippines. In case you might have a use for this information in the future... Savage differential bevel gears are the same with Hyper 7, and Kyosho V1RR cars... only Savage use steel gears, and Hyper 7 and Kyosho are aluminum. Anyway, they are a cheaper/lighter spider gear alternative. Another way of looking at it is that you could bullet proof your buggy's diff by using Savage steel bevel gears instead of the aluminum ones. The Hyper 7 diff cases are the same with Savage as well. Just a small contribution... FYI. Thanks again for the Collari rotostart conversion.

I just got the Collari 30, and my oneway went out on me. I need to know if I can use a HPI oneway or do I have to get if from Collari.

Just got my Collari the other day (finally after a month... I live in the Philippines, ordered the LC .30 from the U.S.). Worked on the rotostart mod last night for about a couple of hours. Here are pics of the process and the final result. I'm very pleased with it. I have a short (10 seconds maybe) video of the final result trying it out with the hand-held rotostarter, but don't know how to upload videos on this site. If anyone wants to see the 10 second video, email me your email address at mikeycortez@yahoo.com and I'll send it to you. Hope this helps or inspires. One more thing about the Collari, the crankshaft has an unusually large play (1.0mm of play), that allows the shaft to move forward and backward quite a bit that the crankshaft's rear end rubs against it's guide inside the engine. Of course, this gets taken care of if/when you mount your flywheel "correctly" (meaning shaft is at the forward-most position, and the flywheel sits on the collet, which should be rearward-most position, in contact with the engine/bearing). I opted to insert a 0.5mm or 0.6mm washer "behind" the bushing of the one-way bearing (emphasis on "behind" the bushing or sandwiched in between the bushing and the engine backplate). The play is down to negligible. I feel it's a safe mod, but please remember... if you try this, you do so at your own risk, okay? Thanks.

MMC, thanks for taking that time to put together that "instructional collage". I posted it over at Savage-central (giving you credit of course, and linking back) in the Collari thread 'cuz there are a few guys that could really use it right now...

Dude, that's hardcore and probably overkill. You have too much free time.

Do you have to do this if you buy the Collari with the rotostart? Or is this only if you are using a 3rd party rotostart?

This is only for those who bought the Collari with a pullstart, and wanted to convert it to a rotostart using HPI rotostart parts. I read that Collari's can be bought now already with a rotostart, but haven't heard of them just selling the rotostart for it as an option/upgrade or aftermarket item. This conversion will also work for the Novarossi .28, and the Sirio .27 engines. This could be a cheaper option to using the Tiger Drive systems or if only rear access with the shaft (guys, get your minds out of the gutter... hahaha) is possible with the rotostart starter system.

Hey Savage in DC,
May I ask what happened to your one-way bearing?
Is it all worn out or messed up (as in disintigrated) or is it intact, but just slipping?
Thanks.

IS the C-30 much better than the SH 28 or even the STS 28?

Why would this be the wrong forum? I was referring to the collari 30 over the other 2 mills. If this is wrong here, then it will be wrong there too. I know there are people in this thread that have both motors. If I was wrong by calling it the C-30, then I appologize.
