suzonka -> types of fuels claims on o%nitro?? (12/28/2004 5:16:58 PM)

what is the difference of no nitro like tower sells and your cool power that tower sells with the nitro 0% or 4% % content?Im looking for the lowest % that will still fly my sport modles and cubs and I dont get it how they say the performance is great even with the FAI 0% fuel without nitro? anyone have the answer?

Hi!
Well some engines will work just fine on 0% nitro. Like all Webra and MVVS engines.
This is the way they are made (their combustion chamber is smaller, which mean they have higher compression, that way they don't need lots of nitro).
Nitro in just small quantities like 5% will make most engines run more reliable (have better idle and response and is easier to needle).

Thanks Jaka ,I often wondered how they made good claims about 0%

JoeAirPort -> RE: types of fuels claims on o%nitro?? (12/29/2004 4:51:39 AM)

Add Moki engines to the list. They run the best on 0% nitro.

suzonka -> RE: types of fuels claims on o%nitro?? (12/29/2004 6:39:43 AM)

thanks again , so OS engines need some nitro

JoeAirPort -> RE: types of fuels claims on o%nitro?? (12/29/2004 1:54:19 PM)

yep, 5-10% is fine

Hobbsy -> RE: types of fuels claims on o%nitro?? (12/29/2004 2:00:49 PM)

Add Fox engines to that list of 0% nitro engines.

downunder -> RE: types of fuels claims on o%nitro?? (12/29/2004 3:02:53 PM)

Surprise, surprise :) All engines will run just fine on zero nitro, including OS.

Hobbsy -> RE: types of fuels claims on o%nitro?? (12/29/2004 3:42:22 PM)

Down, all I use in them is Fox 5% nitro fuel with 20% 50/50 lube.

suzonka -> RE: types of fuels claims on o%nitro?? (12/29/2004 8:43:47 PM)

what is the right info, only some engines or all?

JoeAirPort -> RE: types of fuels claims on o%nitro?? (12/29/2004 8:50:16 PM)

Some were actually designed to run on 0% nitro. Many are listed above and are European designed. Irvine is another one that needs very little niro.

Now take YS or Saito engines. Many people use 30% heli on some of those engines. That gets expensive. Try running a YS on 0% nitro and you will not be happy with the results. 20/20 is the norm on those engines.

PhilNZ -> RE: types of fuels claims on o%nitro?? (12/29/2004 8:52:59 PM)

Hi,
I disagree with this general statement ..

No " all " engines will not run ok with NO NITRO..

If you read the manufactures recommendations on what fuel you should run you will see that each manufacturer will state something like 0 % Nitro 20% Oil ( 30% castor / 70% Synthetic ) or all castor plus 80% methanol.

FAI fuel is 20% oil 80% Methanol ..

Some manufacturers may state 5% or up to 10 / 15 % Nitro it is usually on the manual that comes with the engine or on their website..

The best way to find out is ask your engine supplier or go to the OS forum @ RCUNIVERSE ask the people that make them as it will be them that replaces it if it bombs out under warranty and if you have been running the wrong fuel then your warranty maybe no good.

Regards
Phillip

Hobbsy -> RE: types of fuels claims on o%nitro?? (12/29/2004 9:12:58 PM)

One thing is certain, they will not bomb out from using 0% or 5% nitro. They may run a couple of hundred rpm shy on top end but that is all.

JoeAirPort -> RE: types of fuels claims on o%nitro?? (12/29/2004 9:29:04 PM)

Now this is one statement that I'm sure is backed up by experience. How many engines do you have now? The last number I heard from you was around 140?

Actually Joe, the last engine I bought is a Conley 120 and it is #120 and I think I have my Zenoah G45 sold so I'll be down to 119. I have spoken for the first Saito 2.20 my LHS gets, qualified by if and when, and I have a Fox .50 coming any day now. Taking about the 5% nitro and engines, it works just fine in my OS LA .46 and .65. Big Saitos run great on 5% nitro also, the little ones don't do as well. I accidently put 10% nitro fuel in my MDS 2.18 at W8YE's house summer before last and knew instantly something was wrong. It made real unhappy sounds.

downunder -> RE: types of fuels claims on o%nitro?? (12/29/2004 11:17:56 PM)

Ah OK..maybe I was generalising too much when I said ALL engines will run fine on zero nitro. If I was using an .049 then I'd use nitro. As for reading the manufacturer's recommendations, they know that a bit of nitro will make their engines easier to start and tune for the beginner but that doesn't mean it needs nitro.

As hobbsy said, they will not bomb out from using zero nitro, it's the oil (type and quantity) that determines how long they'll last. I've always said that if you really need the extra few hundred revs you can get with nitro then you need a bigger engine and have better fuel consumption as well.

JoeAirPort -> RE: types of fuels claims on o%nitro?? (12/30/2004 3:37:46 AM)

120? That's plenty. I can see why you like collecting them, they are neat little machines. Especially the 4-stroke radials. Ok back on topic. So your MDS 2.18 wanted 0% nitro? Like the Moki's?

I'm sure it would run fine on 0%, I've never had anything but 5% but it does well on it using a Hangar 9 HAN3006 SuperPlug. It sure didn't like the 10% though.

suzonka -> RE: types of fuels claims on o%nitro?? (12/30/2004 3:13:25 PM)

Well this all settles up my question what 0% is good for, it sounds like anything smaller than a .049 and anything half worn out and anything with low compression just DON'T LIKE IT Bottom line, Thanks guys,Ill have to try it , I'm pretty safe with my 1 yr old Magnum BB 46.

speedster 1919 -> RE: types of fuels claims on o%nitro?? (2/14/2005 1:54:44 PM)

Remember FAI is pure castor oil content since it is availible in every country in the world. 0-5% nitro and oil blend would be fine.

I have been running my .46FX for 3 years with no nitro..ENgine runs great!

B.L.E. -> RE: types of fuels claims on o%nitro?? (12/31/2005 4:16:49 AM)

I once tried FAI fuel in a Cox .049 and yes, it started an ran just fine. It was a little down on power but it did run.

and my engines start instantly without nitro...
