Hi!
Well some engines will work just fine on 0% nitro. Like all Webra and MVVS engines.
This is the way they are made (their combustion chamber is smaller, which mean they have higher compression, that way they don't need lots of nitro).
Nitro in just small quantities like 5% will make most engines run more reliable (have better idle and response and is easier to needle).
Regards!

Add Moki engines to the list. They run the best on 0% nitro.

Add Fox engines to that list of 0% nitro engines.

Down, all I use in them is Fox 5% nitro fuel with 20% 50/50 lube.

Some were actually designed to run on 0% nitro. Many are listed above and are European designed. Irvine is another one that needs very little niro.

Now take YS or Saito engines. Many people use 30% heli on some of those engines. That gets expensive. Try running a YS on 0% nitro and you will not be happy with the results. 20/20 is the norm on those engines.

Hi,
I disagree with this general statement ..

No " all " engines will not run ok with NO NITRO..

If you read the manufactures recommendations on what fuel you should run you will see that each manufacturer will state something like 0 % Nitro 20% Oil ( 30% castor / 70% Synthetic ) or all castor plus 80% methanol.

FAI fuel is 20% oil 80% Methanol ..

Some manufacturers may state 5% or up to 10 / 15 % Nitro it is usually on the manual that comes with the engine or on their website..

The best way to find out is ask your engine supplier or go to the OS forum @ RCUNIVERSE ask the people that make them as it will be them that replaces it if it bombs out under warranty and if you have been running the wrong fuel then your warranty maybe no good.

Regards
Phillip

One thing is certain, they will not bomb out from using 0% or 5% nitro. They may run a couple of hundred rpm shy on top end but that is all.

Now this is one statement that I'm sure is backed up by experience. How many engines do you have now? The last number I heard from you was around 140?

Actually Joe, the last engine I bought is a Conley 120 and it is #120 and I think I have my Zenoah G45 sold so I'll be down to 119. I have spoken for the first Saito 2.20 my LHS gets, qualified by if and when, and I have a Fox .50 coming any day now. Taking about the 5% nitro and engines, it works just fine in my OS LA .46 and .65. Big Saitos run great on 5% nitro also, the little ones don't do as well. I accidently put 10% nitro fuel in my MDS 2.18 at W8YE's house summer before last and knew instantly something was wrong. It made real unhappy sounds.
