Hey everybody. I was wondering if anybody had some info on glow fuel shelf life. Anypersonal experiences using old fuels? I have over half a bottle of 15% Powermaster and I'm not sure if it's anygood because it's been sitting for about 5 years. Any thoughts?

I'd try it. If it runs good on the ground, I'd fly with it. If there are any 'hiccups' I'd get rid of it.

I have about 1/3 gallon of 5% Red Max. I quit using 5% fuel around 1980 and it got stored away in the basement. It spent several months in a hot storage area and is now in my shop. I run some of it through an engine on the bench occasionally and it runs OK. It's around 25 years old. As said, try it and if it works, fine.

I was just about to ask the same question. I have acquired 325 gallons of methanal in sealed metal containers. I do not know how old it is but the guy I got it from was still using it in his race car. Now all I need is some oil to mix and I will be set for a long time.

I also was going to ask the same question today, but my fuel is only about 11 months old. I think I'm good.[sm=thumbup.gif]

Glow fuel, when properly stored has a nearly indefinite shelf life.
Keep it in a reasonably cool, dry and dark place with it tightly caped.

The only time I have had a problem with old fuel was with a bottle of 25% for 1/2A engines. It was about 4-5 years old and I could not get my engine to fire up. After getting some fresh fuel the engine fired right up with the same glow plug.

I can't say how I stored the fuel, because I just don't remember. But I do remember struggling enough that I don't bother using any fuel that is more the a year or two old. If I had several gallons of old fuel laying around, that might be a different story. But usually I don't have much left after the flying season is over so I just get rid of it during the winter and start fresh in the spring.

I've had a 4 gallon drum of 5% fuel being used over the last three years. I am near the end of the drum and the fuel runs the same as it did when I first got it. I've always kept it out of direct sunlight and left the metal drum sit on the concrete floor to help keep it at cooler temp during my hot summers. I also give it a quick shake every now and then just to keep things mixed.
