Based on my experience with the VQ and what I've read about both, the VQ is the best. At least everything but the flaps is better.I put a seperate servo on each flap and it works great.

Well, I'm depressed now. Guess I'll put him in the air anyway. The only four strokes I have in the range for it are the OS 52's and it seems they are nominal; 70 size would work better but I don't want to shoehorn an engine into the cowl. I could run some 50 two strokes but I want the 4 stroke sound, oh well.

You really need .90 4 strokes or 120s

If his is the ASM then it uses smaller motors, 46 2S from memory (could be wrong again)

I have used Saito 72's with good success in 46 size applications.
A pair would sound great ( i am building a Mosquito for a pair of 72's)

Swordsn: 90 4 strokes? If I can make them work, I will but they just seem big. The engine sticking out so much and all and the room for fuel tanks since there isn't much room for much besides what ASM provides. I'll look at it and see if I can make it work.

I will be looking at using 70 four strokes on the ASM. I missed out on something sometime ago with regards to the 70 size engine. The OS 70 ultimate is the same size as the OS 52 and I had bought one of them for another plane. Wish I had gotten two.

.72 four strokes are perfect engines for the ASM

I flew my VQ (.91 2S's) side-by-side with JimmyBananas ASM (.72 4-S's). They were a good match. If anything, he was a little faster.

Here's some video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpnRaMoRFWA&feature=player_detailpage

So you can tell the difference between the two: the ASM has invasion stripes. The VQ does not.

The .72's you are referring to, are they the OS Alpha's?

My apologies.

I just double-checked the thread Jimmy Bananas started on the ASM P-61

He clearly states he flew it with Saito .62's

I can tell you from personal observation, they flew it well

There's a lot more useful info about the ASM on that thread:

I am a friend of Sam Parfitt, and built an olive drab widow about the same time as his but... divorce, vertigo, life... all ready to go but have not flown it yet. During a move, I lost the manual! I would love to be able to review it before the maiden flight (especially regarding throws, center of gravity, pre-flight checks etc.) Does anyone still have a copy of the manual they would be willing to scan for me? Much thanks!

I have the manual which,I will copy and mail to you. I don't have anyway to scan it. Send me your address thru e-mail. I like to help fellow modlers when I can.

I know that this is an old thread, but I've got an unbuilt ARF and am rounding up supplies to start the build.

Can anyone recommend some decent pilot figures for use with the Zollner cockpit kit? From what I've gathered, they need to be about 8" tall.

Thanks!
