You could put any air retracts in it. The Robarts will fit with some trimming on the retract rails to widen them, just like on the H9 Corsair, Kyosho Corsair, VQ P-40, CMP Hellcat, etc...

I love the Warbirds too. We only have a grass field where I fly and unless you change the retracts to a robart struts the wire always bends. It's any easy fix and is worth the $$$. If you are going to fly off grass just get it in your head that you will do the change, unless you like bending the wire every other landing. Love the warbird ARF's. We can fly now and not have to worry about a kit that you spent forever building. I respect the builders and their skill, but I'm too busy to take the time and want to get in the air.

I just want them all!!!! Whats next... bring them on....

    Not quite correct there Steve.

Just towards the end of their "time", before they were absorbed in the 23rd FG USAAC, they recieved some P40E's, originally destined for the 5th Airforce in North Africa, as attrition replacements.

Some of these were destroyed in a disasterous fire on the ground at Loiwing, during transit to Kunming.

Erik Shilling makes reference to this fire on his website.

    quote:

    ORIGINAL: Steve Campbell

<<Based on an authentic Flying Tiger P-40E Warhawk...>>

Right. One of the marketing weenies must have done the research; the AVG flew P-40Bs...

WHY another P-40??? Why not something DIFFERENT; like a Bearcat, or a KI-61 Tony? How hard can that be?

The reference I remember reading stated that the E's arrived AFTER the disbandment /absorption of the AVG into the USAAC. I believe that was in one of William Green's books.

Whatever; a small point. I just hope that this one comes with a decent set of retracts, for the sake of those who will get one.

I was of the same opinion about the model P40 used by the AVG, for many years until I recently found an article on Clair Chenault.

It stated that at the time the AVG became part of the 23rd FG, they had 31 P40B's (out of over 100 initially) and 20 P40E attrition replacements. Of this combined total, only 29 were actually flyable.

But I guess it doesn't really matter unless one is preparing a model for the "Top Gun" meet or the like. We're here to talk ARF model flying.

There is an indentical thread about this kit, going on down in the "Warbirds Section".

Information posted there advises that CMP (GSP) have indicated that they may produce a 72 inch or even larger ARF P40 in the 1st 1/4 of this year. They haven't indicated the actual model, only that it will be finished in silver, like their now OOP .46 version.

I guess it wll be up to us to repaint it in whatever scheme we like.

Lets hope they don't produce a hybrid. Personally I would like to see an early B/C model.

I have also sent an e-mail to Andrew at KMP about doing one.

Hey guys, suggest you all do the same. A squeaky wheel gets oiled. Contact address is on the KMP website.

The lines look good, even the rudder looks somewhat to scale. I'm glad that the rudder servo is not underneath the fuse like on the Corsair. That location makes it easy to pick up stickes and grass shavings.

Two things I want to change when I get one. 1. Put in my Robarts and 2. repaint it with military flats.

One gripe I have as with other H9 warbirds and that is that THEY NEED FLAPS. If this thing flies like the P51 and the TF P40, then I want some control during hot landings.

Just a wee bit off topic.... does anybody know if the VQ P-40 with the Black and Yellow checkerboard tail is a scale color scheme? I've checked abound a little but haven't been able to find a picture of a real one like that. Just wondering.

Yes, that is a scale color scheme. That's a P-40F-20-CU of the 325th FG "Checkertail Clan", flown by Group Commander Lt. Col. R.L. Baseler. Pickup a copy of Squadron Signal Curtiss P-40 in Action. The plane is in there.

Thanks for the links Richard. Just so happens I was in the hobby shop today and took a look at the P-40 in action book and there it was Funny how I missed that the last time I looked.
