Greetings to the Hangar 9 P-40 thread!
I'm picking mine up today. Will be putting the Century Jet retracts in mine as well. I also have a H-9 Corsair to build. Will be putting a Saito 100 in each. I am going for the scale looks as well, but I do need some advice or leads on 3-bid Props and Prop Nuts to give both of them real cool looking scale looks. I'm a fairly new builder. Just completed the below Rare Bear. This beaut has an OS 160, Sierra Retracts, Smoke system installed. This puppy is 11.8 Lbs, but she will fliy fast!
    Thanks for the help!
    Dudley

Picked mine up today - looks great! The gear is installed and looks quite sturdy. We'll see.

Those that have recieved it, can you confirm whether or not the shark mouth is pre-installed?

got mine yesterday and all I can say is gorgeous! Finally.....someone got the camo colors right! The retracts are Very beefy...mine has NO SLOP whatsoever! It comes with a beautiful prepainted cowl...the sharks mouth is already painted on...very nice. The quality of this plane is one of the best I've seen. Im a huge P-40 fan....and trust me....this plane is worth it! The only thing that I dont like, is the exterior mounted elevator/rudder servos....I am going to make mine internal. A beautiful SPORT/SEMI-SCALE P-40....I am sure there will be someone that doesnt like this plane...always is someone that complains about everything. But if your a p-40 fan....get it, you wont be dissapointed!

probably a supertiger .75 and a pitts muffler...want to conseal it completely....should be plenty of room! I have to finish my great planes F-14 first before I start the P-40! although its so tempting to start the P-40....I like to finish one plane before starting another.

on my miss america I mounted also the servos inside the fuse without any problem. I will do the same on the P-40
That will be my third conversion after the miss A and the AT-6

Like H9 previous releases, the first batch of P-40's might be full of bugs. Keep us posted.

Well, at least that`s initially encouraging about the retracts. Hope it proves to be so. Suppose we`ll know pretty soon. I`m convinced that folks would pay a fair bit more if these ARFs came with a SOLID set of pre-installed gear so they wouldn`t have to go through the diappointments and hassles of replacements. My fingers are crossed.

What about the firewall? Will the wing need to be glassed if I install an OS 120? Is the CG on the planes correct? And the engine mounting?
These were issues with the Corsair..

firewall must always be strengtened, that's for a fact on ARFs...
I plan to replace the struts by titanium ones sold there (without changing the size, 5/32): stronger and lighter....I never heard of anybody using them....

RCM used them in a product review of the 60 size p-51. They stiffened up the gear quite a bit and eliminated a lot of the "wobble" on the ground.
