Just finished my h9 p-40. Had to add approx 4.5 to 5 oz of lead/epoxy to the nose to balance her with an OS 91 FS II-P turning a 16x6 Zinger with a Tru-turn spinner.

The factory needles were way off. I have put about 3 tanks through the engine and have a nice idle, transition and top end.
Low needle was leaned quite a bit from factory setting. Main needle is at 1 turn. I'm running an OS type F plug and 15% cool power (green stuff).

Hopefully I will fly her tomorrow weather permitting.

The retracts are fine. I've had to adjust the down stops already because the plastic gear holder deforms a bit under pressure with the set screw. But they are strong enough for pavement. For grass, I don't think I'd fly her off grass unless it was reeeeeeal short grass.

    Seaviper?
Is that some sort of muffler extention you have there and how did you get the cowl on with it ?
I assume the engine is inverted?
    Thanks!

No muffler at all. It's 3/8" ID fuel line from your local automotive store. Sounds good.

I flew the bird today. Used a 15/6 prop. Plenty of power. Needed 2 clicks of down elevator, nothing else. Very stable. Easy to fly.
On landing I rolled into a piece of FOD (actually someone's muffler or engine part) and caused on of my wheels to skid then pop off the ball link. Lost a few cool points, but didn't hurt anything other than the prop and a little scrape on the front of the cowl.

Very easy to land and handles great at slow speed. I would not be afraid of this bird at all.

Can't wait to get back in the air. I'll have to wait two weeks though because we are going out of town.

yes...3" point. came out real nice. very stable. added 4 oz of weight to nose with lots of epoxy. probably like 4.5-5 oz total. I put the weights in behind the spinner backplate inside the cowl.

Balanced mine this am. put the battery just aft of the servos and it balanced perfectly at 3" (gear up).

    capt G,

what servos are you talking about. I only have 1 servo up front and that's the throttle servo. I did use a lightweight nimh batt though.

I suppose you could run the engine all the way out on the mount and that would help too. Anyway, good luck on your first flights.

The ship flies very nicely, good slow speed handling, nothing out of the ordinary.

    Seaviper?
How is the fuel line exhaust pipe attached to the engine and do you have a pressure line somehow connected to it?
    Thanks again.

    Capt. G,

Is that your Graupner 14x7 3-blade painted black? How is your YS 91 turning that prop? RPM? Thanks.
