Minn, Im in the same boat with a 4X AGP capabilities. I actually have an 8X slot, but my chipset will only run at 4X, supposedly its a negligible difference anyway.

I went with the BFG GeForce FX5500 OC 256MB for $150 at best buy and it works great. Some other things to consider are your power supply and the TYPE of AGP slot you have.. There are different AGP configurations believe it or not. I made 4 trips to best buy before I finally got a card that would work. If the card you by has 3 sections to the plug that goes into your AGP slot its a universal and will work with your PC. No matter how fast your Video Card is, it will only run as fast as your chipset ram and processor will allow.

I have 384MB RAM, 1GHz AMD Athlon processor and Im getting about 50FPS with this card which is plenty. The only thing I cant run all out is smoke,, I can run everything else all out.

If you have more RAM and a newer, faster processor you could probably run a BFG FX5700 or FX5800 or a ATI 9600.

If its real new and has 512MB RAM and a P4 or new AMD processor then the GeForce FX6800 or ATI 9800 will haul butt for about $300.

The gamers all say that the 6800 is THE baddest fastest card on the market.

Also. I picked up about 15 FPS when I Locked my internet and shutdown the firewall and virus porgrams. They really slow things down. The fewer applications that are running in the background the more power and memory your PC has to dedicate to the sim.

The field you fly off and the plane you pick has a lot to do with the FPS. I can get over 100 with the less detailed field. The indoor Gym really slows it down. On most planes and fields I get 55 -70 FPS. Big Ned...what plane and field do you get 50 FPS. Just wondering. The smoke slows mine down, but not that much..5-10 frames. Guys....when you give frame rates tell us what field and plane. Or general settings. Thanks Capt,n

Just got back from Best Buy, picked up a X800 ..... oh baby!

I'm getting up to 300 FPS now. The gym I can go full smoke and get over 200.

Dion,

If you don't mind me asking, why an ATI XT800 Pro, and not an nVidia 6800 Ultra??

whats up guys!

Well I want to clear up some mess about video cards and what not, Fortunatly I work at Best Buy as a Technician in the Geek Squad. Ive had about 2 years experience with overclocking and making my computer the fastest, and even dumped 900$ on a vapor-phase cooling system that sets the cpu temp to -30c, and a processor that values about 900.00, the fx-53, and a 6800 gt oc.

(Let me clear up some stuff about the 6800 and x800 first. The 6800 will beat the x800, 6800 contains a 16 pixel pipeline architecture, this will give you more FPS, more clarity and precision. Also the 6800 has a better pixel shader model. BFGtech makes the best cards and life time WARRANTY!)

That computer game, the XTR, will run good on the following: (Minimum)
9800 Pro video card
AMD XP 2400+ up to the 64 bit processors
512mb of DDR PC 2700 memory.
7200 rpm hard drive
A motherboard that supports 8x.

AeroFlyPro: (Minimum)

Same as above, if not higher than above.

Any questions, pm me.

thanks guys,
I've read my eyes red comparing cards and ordered
an ATI 9600XT ( thanks sl_guy).
think that'll do it for now and later agp8, plus the price is right.
$ 131 shipped at newegg. am on a budget and rather keep some
doll's for new planes and servos. bestbuy
I know for sure, a $300+ card would keep me more in front of the pc
than at the field.
not a good thing at this time of the year in flori-duh!
heck, my OMP 50" Ultimate 10-300 Profile hasn't even shipped yet!

I don't know about that minimum because i'm running AFPD @ 800x600 resolution with about 80-90 FPS...my specs are

AMD 2000+
256 ddr 2700 RAM
Geforce 2 32 ram ...and that's below the minimum requirements for AFPD
i believe it's a 4x AGP slot but that doesn't matter

My computer runs fine at that resolution i have but if i go the next up it will drop down to about 20-30 FPS

generally speaking AMD processors do run games/sims better than intel processors...on the other hand Intel processors run word/office apps better then AMD but either way you most likely won't ever notice the difference if you were able to compare... I like AMD mainly because you get more processing power for the dollar and my processing mainly involves games and AFPD.
