Not being an "Old Timer", I agree with a lot of the comments, but the one I have not seen is what if I am flying, and one of the "Newbies" just drives up and turns his or her radio on, how will this effect my flight, what frequency are they on, and how do I control my plane if they are on my channel and frequency.

At our club, you CAN NOT turn on your radio until your card is on the channel board, which naturally will tell you if someone is already on that channel. If you turn your radio on and cause a crash, you just bought yourself a new plane.

LDM, you are welcome to dislike me. I can only read your posts. There are so many conflicts in them that I wonder how you can manage it without whiplash. I happen to be our club Sec, gave up flying and manned the grill throughout our last fly-in. Still managed to bring an Air Hog for the kids (and a few adults!) to enjoy and spoke to as many people about flying as I could manage. Even signed up a new member. So, your internet opinion doesn't bother me. The only walls in this hobby are those you build for yourself. Period.

There looks to be a pattern there. Like it peaks every ten years and the drops. I wonder how far back that trend goes and what could cause it? (external or internal)

Maybe a picture will help. Here is what AMA membership looks like between 1987 and 2004:

Since 1989 it appears that there is a maximum 12 to 13% wiggle in the number of members. Not sure if that spells the demise of the organization or not. It has dropped before and rebounded, so who knows. Maybe this is the death knell, but probably not.

The "death knell" is the constant growth of employees and a magazine that continues to in crease it's losses.

The "death knell" is the drone like attitude that some AMA members take saying the AMA can do no wrong.

You get what you don't vote for.

You might want to spend some time in the Members Only Section on the AMA site looking in the Model Aviation Archives. The dates of dues increases can be found there. You may find it interesting to compare dues increases to the decrease in memberships.

And the increase in employees and building.

As usual, no basis in fact. The MA archives have no such information. On the other hand, the Financial Statements have a wealth of that type of info. Don't let your lack of knowledge stop you, keep posting nonsense.
