Any size that is not wider than the torp diameter and bit enough to fit a toothpick. I used the spare props tha came with a U-boat model.

You might be able to use props from damaged wal-mart boats.
they're small and light.

wait..hold the boat.

no pun intended.

why not fit a bottle rocket inside of a canister...putting it inside a CO2-type canister would pressurize the escaping gases by forcing them through a smaller opening, perhaps enough to propel the canister forward. vary the size of the hole to increase pressure and you could put multiple bottle rockets in one canister for larger diameter.

use fins on the sides of the canister for stability...and place two pieces of square "fin" material placed in a cross pattern on the back of the canister to direct flight.

issues i see with this:

1. keeping the tube waterproof while in the launching tube...one-way valve?

2. having enough oxygen in the tube to completely burn the bottle rocket. probably be fine...it's mostly a chemical reaction anyways.

3. lighting the bottle rockets...should be able to figure out some way to do this...

perhaps by extending the fuse of the bottle rocket out the back of the canister, then using a servo to push the canister and place the fuse in a flame...electronic ignition, etc.

chemical reactions are what i see as the most efficient and probable way to do this...you need a reaction that would generate a lot of CO2 gas over a period of time...do NOT use compressed gas, as this is inefficient because of the fact that it is released all at the same time...basically equals fail. not to mention dangerous.

the other option would be to see if model rocket engines are possible - i know these can be remotely detonated...as i have launched b-type model rocket engines since i was a kid.

any thoughts on this?

EDIT: wow ok, i just said the same thing the other guy up there is saying....but still.

i like the idea.

sorta like a sophisticated diet coke and mentos project.

i vote model rocket engines with a reaaallly small nozzle to produce high pressure inside and high speed air at the opening.

What do you mean by starting kit? Like a sub kit or torpedo kit? As fas as I know, no one makes a torpedo kit for sale.

alright every body i have soled the rocket torpedo problem of ignition! All you have to do is you take the rocket put it into a torpedo shell seal the end a little ways form the back of the rocket so its airtight but it can be burnt away rune a fuse to the end of the airtight area and take the remote ignition wires attach to fuse and count down hit the button that triggers the servo to hit the ignition button and presto a perfect rocket torpedo!

Guys here is an even easier torpedo.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5QChUNNHnI
Watch this video, these cars use nothing but a simple c02 cartridge to power them. I'm sure you could construct a sleave of sorts to pop over them & serve as a torpedo. It would take a little work to build a launcher for these, but it is not too dificult. When they race these they hit the back of the c02 w/ a small nail and it takes off. I would bet you could launch one of these by making a small pee shooter w/ a nail in it that could easicly be released by a servo. A bobbing pin would probly also make a good launch mechanism. When you build your tube be sore to make sure it is strong enough to hold the c02 pressure while it is coming out of the tube.

Right, If you want it really good, then use an electric motor and hook it up to several props inside an aluminum tube with intake valves so it take water,
propell it as fast as humanly possable and send it out the nozel to make it run. But this project is for serious RCers only. Some
guys did this but they did it with a torpideo PT boat.
