Playboy on floats
trying something different. putting my 81" Playboy on floats, old style, homemade ones. since I have 5 miles of water in front of the house and sometimes in the house- during hurricanes. they are ready to cover and the see if they are big enough to support the plane. dick

RE: Playboy on floats
I did the same thing to my Cloud King last summer. My floats were 16" long, 2" wide, and 3" high. I did get it in the air , but it was difficult, not enough floatation. I'm presently making them 2" wider, which should do the trick. It was and still will be easy to tip over with cross winds due to the high dihederal. I'm sure your Playboy will be the same..............Seaplane

Old timers make wonderful quiet water flyers. Just a thought Dick you may want those floats a little further apart when you get crosswind on the water taxi t does not take much to blow it over. Here is my 'Kerswap' on three soda pop bottles. Last picure is just after sitting down in my buddys stock pond, First picture is a double post and no provision to get rid of it.

bad and good news. small ones tooooo small, would not support the weight. so new foam ones with yard sticks for backbones in process, same size as the store molded plastic ones but 1/2 the weight, no matter how long you have been in the hobby-- there's always something new to try without getting discussed. dick

Don,t ya just love the the hi tech experimenting Dick. Know what you mean, have not been in my hot tub for many years but its done yeoman service doing float test on a whole bunch of airplanes. Please, please post some more pictures when you get it going with the new floats.
Test, in my case it is not a Playboy but a Kerswap. A published design I think from around 1940 but could be a little off on that. Its powered with an old OS Max series .20 and spends 95% of its flight time at idle. 3Lbs. 1 ounce and 59inch wingspan. heres a photo of it on wheels doing what it does best, a high speed pass at idle smoking along around 13 mph.

RE: Playboy on floats
you started something with your Qaker on floats-- now I will have to start designing a set of floats for my 14 foot Qaker, looks like they will be a couple of canoe's. whose design did you use, are they a kit or scratch? plans available? dick
