Can't believe there is so much activity with this airplane. I got an old Bridi kit from a friend that I'm putting together. Just ordered a set of retracts from Century Jet.

I'm having some trouble figuring out what to do about mufflers. The guy I got the kit from has a set of mufflers made for the kit but he also has another kit that he's going to build. Does anyone know of a place that would make up custom mufflers from an existing one?

Mock up what you need in balsa and send it to Karl... perfect work, reasonable prices. I use him for all my custom work and he will be doing the muffs for the twin BME 50's in the Shrike I'm building.

I plan to install my OS .46SF engines with both cylinders pointing the same way then I be using the Slimline sport mufflers (one normal, one "inverted) to exit the exhaust outboard.

Use your imagination with the attached picture and you can see what I will be attempting.

I was thinking about the slimline pitts muffler but couldn't get the picture in my mind and didn't want to buy them unless I was fairly confident they would work.

So I presume you're going to run them up and out the real exhaust ports right? I'd love to know how it goes for you. I might just take that route rather than having custom mufflers made up.

Forgot to mention that I was planning to go with the OS 46s also. Seems like the best bet for power to weight.

Yeah, I'll run one like shown in the picture and run the other "upwards" towards the top of the cylinder (Turn the muffler 180 degrees). It isn't scale....they will both be pointing out the "outboard" side of the nacelle on each wing. (the engines will be mounted sideways) The only thing I'm not sure of is one set of pipes will be longer than the other set, so I hope I don't get some weird engine run problem from the slight difference in back-pressure (if any)

I was going to go the Pitts muffler route but I don't want all that exhaust blowing down onto (and into) the main landing gear well.

We'll see. I'm not anywhere near that point. I haven't even measured to see if the engine/muffler combo will fit.

Ok now I get it. The scale mufflers that my friend has exit out the top exhaust ports. They use a header with tubing to an expansion chamber then more tubing to a couple of pipes that stick out the scale exhaust ports. I was thinking I might mount the engines with the heads down and then use tubing to run the exhaust out the top of the nacelles in the scale ports simiar to how the scale mufflers were set up.

If the attached picture comes out you'll see what I mean.

I understand what you're saying. That would be very cool if there is enough room in the nacelle.

I put all my "at home" stuff on hold as I have started teaching a group of high school kids how to build models. I am running off in so many directions right now. LOL!

I don't remember those nacelles being really roomy but then I haven't looked at the kit for about 3 weeks or so...about the time I got ther new wing cores.

I've been doing searches of the internet but haven't been able to find a 3-view for the Shrike. Does anyone know where I can find one?

I have one. I can either fax or send you a copy. It's out of what appears to be an excerpt from the maintenance manual for the 500S.
