look in your yellow pages for sign companies like fast signs or similar, give them a call and telll them what you are doing and they will probably give you the name of the place they get coroplas. Thats what I did. they put me right in touch with the wholesaler who sold me 4mm white for $7.25 a 4x8 sheet and yellow for $8.25 a sheet other colors like blue, red, purple, orange are 12.50b a sheet and he stocks them all. They also carry some really cool colored films for making stickers and signs that would make cool graphics on a spad.

I agree with byrdman on the deb, if you already know how to fly. The deb is a slow flying trainer (my son learned to fly with one), not much for fun flying tricks. I have also built a dps, spadstick (awesome plane), demon, and a couple of my own ideas. You replied to my U-Can-Crash post, note the pile of scrap left on impact. I've hit the ground just as hard with a spad and have been back flying the same day (although my demon did not survive it's crash) , but it just makes you want to try somethig else (spad) if it's not worth repairing. I have a blast with my spads. You can go to one of my posts and check out my gallery, it has three spad inspired pics and two balsa pics. Glad to see that you are going to give it a go.

But do me one favor ....... please hold my hand LOL......

YOU KNOW ,,, its funny I bought a dremel back in the summer used it to do some electronics locks, have'nt used it again.... quess what

Ok thanks all and tomorrow as I'm driving around completing service calls I will start looking for the Coro.

Thanks again , I found a site that will ship me 25 4'x8" sheets of corroplast for $15.00 plus shipping. I don't think I need that much right now , and dont have any place to keep it, so I will just keep looking for the free stuff for now or find a shop that sells it .....I should have all of the materials before saturday then I will begin building.

bobo_54501 I have a hot glue gun and just to let you know hot glue is being used on most balsa trainers. You are right , the stuff is tough. Has any one tried Gorrilla glue ? It is supposed to be the strongest glue ever made. The down fall to using it is the drying time ...24 hrs for complete bond .

Twenty-five 4'X8' sheets for $15??? You're kidding, right??!!

Post a link for that site!!! I definitely want to check them out!

I use 6 minute epoxy to glue my wings... just wipe down the coro with alcohol first. Very strong bond and sets in, well, 6 minutes! I never could get CA to stick...

Technically, his post said {25 4'x8"}. As in twenty five pieces that are 48 inches by 8inches. That seems pretty useless. So he's either got a bargain and a typo, or he's getting ripped off. I bought my sheets of 4mm and 2mm from Regal Plastics for ~$8 a sheet (48x96). No shipping, but I had to wait for their next stock truck.

And to continue the thread.... I used contact adhesive for the wings on my Spadet. I bought it at my local Hobby Lobby. Stinks bad, but holds well. I also found that if I "flash" the joint after the glue sets up, it kind of relaxes the coro a little. This puts less stress on the glue.

I think I made a booboo...........This is the add, I read it wrong....forget that they printed it wrong ........... just kidding
Today I went to a print shop and for a 4'x8 sheet he wanted $25.00. To cut it he wanted $5.00 dollars per cut. Now who said this SPAD building was cheap ? ......

All jokes aside , I finnally went the store I normally buy all of my junk food and lottery tickets from and they had 2 more pieces of coroplast for me . See pic below.... I think I have enough now .

Find a wholesaler make up a name like Joes sign company and by it direct. I get them for 7.25 a sheet for white and $8.25 for yellow. I didn't even have to make up a story just told them I was makin planes out of it and nothing more, they didn't hassel me a bit.

I have been buying 4 foot by 8 foot sheets of 4 mil at a company here in western Ky. for $9 a sheet. The name of the company is GRP "General Rubber & Plastics." In addition I have a debonair that I train new comers with before I let them fly their own planes because the Deb is ALMOST bulletproof and can take most any crash and continue to fly. The deb built per plans is heavy. I built it per plans with one mod. I cut the coro used on the wing 1 inch short of where the leading edge bend would be. I then flashed and CA,d a 1 inch overlap and cpmpleted the original panel size with 2 mil insuch a way that just in front of the splice with the 4 mil I made the leading edge bend making the top of the wing 2 mil. To summarize since I don't explain things very well the bottom of the wing is 4 mil while the top of the wing is 2 mil. This lightened the plane considerably and as a result the plane flies spectacularly with a towerhobbies 46 as power.

Just caught this lol

Any way just an update I'm getting a little worried about finding the materials need so to save time I'm going to improvise.

Could not find square 2x4 gutter pipe anymore, actually I don't think the make it anymore. Its either round or its aluminum. ,. Also I could'nt find yard sticks....tape measures must have put the manufacturers out of business lol

So as some one else did, I will construct the fuse out of the coroplast. Besides pvc is very heavy so the coro should come in at the same weight as a normal balsa trianer.

Yard sticks can be found in the paint dept of most building centers . 2 1/2" square downspout can be had at most Do It Center Hardware stores . If they don't have it in stock they can order it for you . About $10 - $11 for a 8 or 10 foot lenght .

Hi guys,
I just built my first SPAD. I built the demon with plans from spadtothebone. Looks ok for a first plane, the CG seems to be good... a little to the front when holding between the spars. Took us about 15hrs total. Could probably do it in less after a few more times.

Took it out to fly this morning and I couldn't get it off the ground. It kept nosing into the ground before take off. Like the skid was bouncing it up off of the snow. It would taxi around nice at a slow speed but whenever I tried to take off it nosed. hhhmmmmm.

out of time to try again right now.... Any pointers are greatly appreciated!

Other than checking the obvious that your elevator is moving in the correct direction, I would try moving the CG forward or add weight to the tail. See if that helps. Also, make sure that the ailrons are up slighly.
