Hi,

This is a topic where people can post the ugliest airplanes they have ever seen.
This means FULLY FUNCTIONAL airplanes, so no crash sites please.

Ill kick off by nominating the GWS Slowstick:

Reason: Its got guts hanging everywhere. Looks like a plane that has been turned inside out.

Now its your turn. Post a pic and the uglybugs name, and what youd like to say.

Ugliest one I've ever owned (although I love it) is the UCD3D.

Looks like a cartoon character amongst real-life models (Roger Rabbit?)

I was fascinated by this model published in Model Aviation back in 1992. I was 15 at the time and just had to have one. Ordered the plans and set to work. It flew many months later, albeit with an engine that was shot. Back in the day I flew off an empty ballfield in suburban Minnesota. I'd hold the tail, let the engine slowly come up to speed, and let go. I just remember that thing rolling and bounding and struggling over the dirt. Everyone would hold their breath, and at the edge of the infield it would hit a bump and barely be airborne before ground looping in the grass.

It only flew three times back then. I put it in storage, inside my dad's boat which he kept in a barn. 12 years later I cleaned it off. Mice had lived in it. They had eaten it and made a nest with some of the ribs. There was a hole at the tip of the right wing, and the critters lived in the tip of the left. As a rodent toy, this model would shame any and all paper towel tubes.

Nothing like removing strips of monokote to shake out mouse turds and wing nibblings.

Anyhow I'm in Colorado now and have flown this thing several times with a new engine. Such a fun airplane.

Jeff

The beauty or ugliness of an airplane is not in how it looks on the ground, but how it performs in the air. This is my first RC airplane, which never flew well worth a damn. The one time I got it airborne, it refused to turn at all, just flew in a straight line. Terribly underpowered, poor control. Just a sorry excuse for an aircraft.

I have to vote for the SPADs. The single is mine. It is a blast to fly but be sure to cut the holes in the paper bag big enough to look up.

I have to agree with you on that. And I woulnd call it an airplane eighter, actually. Its more of an UFO (Unidentified Foam Object), the way it flies. Dont get me wrong though, theire great fun, but damn theire ugly.

I wish I could get my hands on one of these ugly looking Sport Mudd Ducks - any ideas?. For those calm wind days in Florida's summer time... ah the good times.

It may fly good but the Lanier Stinger has to be one of the ugliest straight out of the box.

A second vote might be for the 4*. Sure it is super popular but what is with the canopy? Overall the plane could use an updated look I think.
