We salute you Captain_Yak!!!!!
Very remarkable subject!
Have you decided on the color scheme?

BTW, here is a grand-father of La-7.

Hi all! Go the retracts today ......... so I will fit them in place Sunday or Monday.

Some more pics of the LA_7

Will take more pics on the retract fit next week.

As for the colour ........ I am looking around to see what will be the best schem........... I usualy build them 1st and then try to see how the finish model looks. Some times the selected colour schem does not fit the size or looks of the subject.

So at this point I am still looking.

If any one has seen a good colour schem ... please drop me a not on this web site and I will have a look at it.

Best regards

Captain_Yak

Thanks tubig and mihaj for your kind words!

I originaly found that the CCCP aircraft were very different than any other I had seen. Specialy the USA models.

So I embarked in building my own fleet of the RED STAR aircraft, best thing about it is that no one has something like this in the club nore in my State (South Australia).

Any way since I am close to 85% finishing this project off (Just need to fit the retracts, Engine, servo, covering, paint)

All of which I like to finish off each one at a time ......... say every week one off .

This will give me some more time to think!

What will be my next project!
(I have started design work on a "Fiat G55") attached is the pic of the subject.

I like the G55 as it has very cleane lines and looks good.

HI Baldeagle!

Canopy is made out of composite strips of Polyester . same stuff you use to build a boat. I will then cover it with clear sheet (Same as the over head tansfers we use to show documents).

Will then cover is up with Aluminium tape to simulate the frame!

Did some engine run up last week......... with the Zenoha - G-26!

Not a bad engine., howerver I do not like its weigh at 4 lbs it is just too heavy.

All up the model weights at 15 lbs ......(Wing loading is at 32 oz)....... So I will replace it with a SAITO 182T that has the same power but half the weight.

This will give me a wing loading of 27.5 oz which for this size is a good loading.

Problem is that I have to wait 4 - 6 weeks until the dealer can get me one......... good things come to those who wait!

G'day Capt,
If you are still interested in a Fiat project then this may be of interest. We have a Fiat G59- 4B in Australia doing the warbird scene at the moment. It is part of the Guido Zuccoli Collection based out of Toowoomba in QLD. Should be very easy to get photos of this aircraft for colour schemes & the like. Hope this is of help.
Tony..

Hi Doug!

Had to put the LA-7 on hold for the next few months ...........

Work, work, work is to blame!

And bad weather Down under we have had very bad weather .............

So I will finish the model some time arouns August .........

Just looking now for the right engine to use .........

Will be a FS - Minimum size I am looking at is a 1.50

But I think the SAITO 182T will be a good one ......... will fit in the cowling.

or the Laser 200V ......... (If I can get one at a good price in Australia).

Did some thrust try outs with an ENYA155 and got 13.4 lbs static on a scale (Calibrated scale was used)

However I am looking for a 1:1 thrust to weight.

Regards

Captain_Yak

Hi All!

Back on track ...............

Now it is time to try out the Engine thrust test ..............

Used a SAITO 120 (My old engine and did not like it).

Used a 155 and got very good results.

However I amd looking in usinga SAITO 182T I read in a mag that it has 6.7 Kg of thrust out of it. (14.77 Lbs)

So will order it next week .......... now looking for best price and deal!

Will post some more pics next week.

Did take some WB photos and it looks good.

Regards

Captain_Yak!

Hi Flapper!

I too saw this LA-9 and was going to build it .............. however the specs for the LA-7 gave me more Wing area and went for the LA-7 .............. wish I could use a radial for my LA_7

However a twin will do a better job.............

Will do the test flight ASAP ............. weather permiting. As we have had so much rain that nothing other than a light weight can fly off our strip.

Captain Yak.

That LA9 was an awsome aircraft. I remember seeing the Spitfire, Kittyhawk, a P51 and the LA9 doing some high speed runs from the right at Wanaka and the LA9 seemed to have to back off to let the others keep up. From memory I think the LA9 was actually one of if not the fastest fighters of WW2. It entered service quite late but still saw a lot of combat.

Well, as for La-9. The main difference from La-7 is that La-9 was full metal aircraft. First La-9 was produced in August 1946, already after WW2. In total there were produced 1559 in 1946-1948. La-9 had laminar wing and speed 640 km/h near the ground and 690 km/h at 6250 m height. La-9 was armed with 4 23 mm guns, thus La-9 was the most powerful-armed prop fighter.
