put it this way it will do everything a funtana will and you can also fly precision as well where the funtana lacks

I am banking on the Fliton to be stronger on its side also

sorry but I don't get what your saying

I expect the Fliton to be KE loop capable--The F90 does not have enough rudder to do so and the F40 can barley hold KE

Also, I expect the Fliton to need less correction to keep it on track(than F90) when it is on its side(KE).

GP!!! Had 4 flights this morning with the Fliton and TT61 2C ... the TT is not a good combination compared with a Saito 72, not for 3D. The throttle needs to be at about 80% to get the prop revving. The 4C engines will be much better, I am leaving the TT61 in and just fly her about for fun and let it be, will be getting another Extra 330 in a couple of months and then perhaps a Saito 100 for her.

Anyways ... the KE has little coupling, just a bit on the ailerons, very very slight. After owning the F90 I will still say the Fliton is a better plane, well it would be a much better one if it had a 68" w/span!

How about other 3D/aerobatics? Are the snaps fast and tight like everyone says?

What prop and RPM? To bad you did not have a .91 2 stroke to stick in it. The ST.75 2 stoke on my 6 pound UMAY does very good turning the MA Scimitar @10,300. That is with it very rich for extended hovering--for some reason the motor tolerates this rich setting at lower power setting without loading up. Still I think the SA100 will be very good on a 6.5 pound fliton & looking forward to flying--think it will turn a 14 x6 10,000 on 15%.

I am sure the plane would fly better at 68", but I would not have got it if it were that big--I want something that will fit in the car with my Yak or F90.

GP - the SAito 100 is not going to turn the APC 14x6 @ 10,000 RPM ... its will turn a 15x6 at about that RPM! I envy you k!!! ANyways, I was running a 13x6 at about 10,500 RPM with a leaking carb. The Saito 72 turns the 13x6 at about 10,200 RPM but the torque is so much better with the Saito 72, much much better.

I sold everything off, I had too many planes GP and EP. Now I keep only the Extra 330, Waco 60 and a Harrier 90 that is almost ready to fly. Just had news that one of my projects might be coming through ... time to consider another Extra 330!!! Saito 100 or EP ... Hmmmmm ... choices ... hahahahahaaaa ...

Just bought a new carb for my TT61, now I can get her up this coming weekend and really enjoy her. I found out that the TT61 (with a leaking carb) has better fuel consumption than the Saito 72!

Hi guys,
Just wanted to share my flying with the extra 330. Aside from some cursing during the building (trying to get the elevator y linkage down through the fuse and exiting corrrectly) this plane is nothing short of amazing.
I am flying it with an OS 91 fS, propped with a 15x4 APC. It performs like the big boys - harriers, waterfalls, blenders, parachutes...you name it. It's a dream to fly.
My only flying dissapointment is the KE flight. You need to keep up some good speed to hold a good KE. I think a KE loop would be next to impossible - maybe with the saito 100. This plane does everything my OMP Edge profile will do and more, but it won't hold a slow, high alpha KE. But being able to bring it in for a harrier landing (my firsts ever) is well worth it.

I also dead sticked it last weekend and it floated forever - no problems. My HS 81 throttle servo failed on me and it was stuck at about 1/2 throttle. I flew it till the tank rand dry then landed.

I might have to buy another one as a back up.

Regards,
Rob

No, Not KE LOOP capable and no slow alfa KE? That is why I went with the Fliton extra What do you have for a rudder servo and how much throw?

I ordered a HS 81 for my throttle, but now have been thinking maybe not as I have herd other failures...think I might just get a 225

You are probobly right! I can't help myself when I see a new plane hit the market that looks good I just got to have it! I will slow up on planes for a little while I just started getting into Helis. It is a nice change of pace!

Well,
Extra no 2 is in repairing. I was having so much fun lately with this plane. I bought it as a back up for my EF YAk but I hardly flew the yak in the last weeks.
2day, at the second flight, my saito 100 decided it's time to quit right when it was time to exit from the inverted flat spin. I barely had time to roll upright and parachute the plane into the weeds. The damage is more to my self esteem than to the plane; broken firewall, bended LG and needle valve and cosmetic cracks on the cowl.

I really like how the plane flies. The flat spins are really really nice, the knife edge with saito 100 are quite slow and the AOA of fuse will be more then 45 degrees before stall. It tucks a little bit to the canopy but I did not bother even to mix it out. In 10 m/h wind I can harrier it still in front of me. The wings are rocking a bit but it's way more stable then any plane of this size. These are the up-lines.

For some reason I was not impressed with the rudder but maybe I just need a longer arm for the servo and being such a light plane the lines do not look crisp. It's a toy more on the 3D side then on IMAC.

As construction be sure you beef up the engine box. On the second plane was loose before mounting the engine.

That sux! I am pretty impressed with the rudder authority on mine. Nice high alfa knife edge is no problem at all. I guess I am gonna put it back in the air this weekend I really miss the plane after talking to you guys agian. I haven't flown it in about 3 months as I have been tied up in other projects.

I have had that happen to me once on my buddys Funtana before I got mine in the air, I went up hammerheaded over rapped up the ailerons then went into the snap then flat spin and when I tried to roll out the engine died I quickly passed the Tx back him and he had a good landing.

Did you hover it at all? if yes then has it really a handful, what throttle position were you at?

Fletch124,

On hover it's quite a handfull. It's hard to lock it in ( I'm not very good on that, still learning) and if it's leaning to a side you have to jam the throttle pretty hard to put it back on vertical. On saito 100 I was few clicks below half throttle with a 15x6 APC but I have some expo on it.
I did not try to make it real tail heavy, didn't want to set it just for hover.

It must be the forward cg that causes the situation. Slow hi apha KE is no problem just perfect and stable. KE loop is possible with saito 82, so it won't be a problem with the saito 100. The plane does not need very strong servos as long as it is built light. I have 225 on rudder with about 45 degrees.

Pulling into a hover my Extra wants to drop to the left a bit ... I better check the lateral balance then maybe later on the side thrust. I am dying to get another with a Saito 100 ... hehehe ... no harm having 2 planes right?

I agree... no problems with high alpha KE here either with the Saito 100. Rudder is maxed and almost banging the elevators. CG is dead on factory spec too. My favorite maneuver with this plane is the knife edge spin and waterfall though. It's like a foamy and yet a great deal of precision is in the plane. If you can get over some of the downfalls of building and beef up what needs it, this plane is worth a lot!
