Cowling coming off can be cured with some ply on the fuse to hold the screws better. The hatch can be resolved with a simple tape on either side. One side stays on as the hinge and you replace the other one for each outing. Wheel pants are a no no unless you got a nice paved runway.

Hi Blazer,

I did what tianci said to do, epoxied some tabs arounnd the cowl, and on the hatch. I can take pics if you want? I took a little piece of ply (1/2 x 1/2 if even) and a piece of tri stock, and stuck those together and then put them on the fuse/firewall to screw into.

that epoxy holds wood to wood VERY well.

did you lose the hatch?

Hey Tianci, yeah, I can only imagine! It's probably going to be too much for me at first. I'll get used to it!

I reinforced the firewall with tri all around. Is there anything else I need to do? other than overall double checking their joints etc.

If you reinforced properly with tri stock and epoxy, thats enough. You dont need to add glass too. But you can use less epoxy when using glass fabric. Balance your prop, and spinner well, and vibrations will not be a problem. Tru turn spinners, contrary to advertisements, are not balanced very well or at all from the factory. My 100, at idle, does not even shake flight controls. My 125 is smooth as silk too. I think people just are not balancing props and spinners fully. All the 100's and 125's I've seen with proper balancing do not vibrate like alot of people seem to see. No, its not a 2 stroke, but if it is vibrating your plane apart, something is not right.

Planning on the 1st flight friday. 45 degrees, and 3 mph wind forecast. Leaving work early.

OH!

I started the engine, sounds good. Does vibrate quite a bit. Didn't really throttle up much yet, since I didn't have the wings all the way in

THose bolts are a PAIN in the ASS to get on. Can I cut them down? They are longer than the threads themselves. And there's no way to get a good angle on them.

Did anyone else figure out an alternative method to securing the wings?

Thanks
Tim

I switched mine to socket head screws. I use hemostats to put the srews in the holes, then tighten with a long ball driver.

so it has a hex head, with an hex hole, that you use a long driver for?

Is it pretty quick?

Yes, hex head. Its very quick, and easy. I also changed the blind nuts in the wing to a standard size 8-32. Using a 9/64 long allen ball driver. I put a large washer on each bolt, and a thin piece of fuel tubing between the large washer and a small washer under the bolt head. The washer spreads the load, and the rubber squishes against the threads, centering the large washer and keeping the bolt from backing out.

I maintained with the nylon one but I used a 12" screw driver to install it. Guess with smaller hands its much easier too.

They dont call me hamfist for nothin Not really, just thought it would be easier that way, and the modification only took about 15 minutes. The stock blind nuts in the wing pushed right out with a hot soldering iron, no hammering, or splintering, just a clean push. The soldering iron is a neat little trick I just recently learned. The aft edge of my fuel tank is behind the wing tube, so you have to use hemostats to put the screws in the holes. Quick and easy though. The cool thing about this plane needing so many modifications, is seeing all the ideas you guys have come up with in this thread. Quite impressive. One thing I did a little different on the canopy, is put foamie hinge tape on one side, and magnets on the other. I got the small magnets for slot cars, and with magnets on both sides, you almost needed a screw driver to pry it off. It was starting to deform the wood, from pulling so hard. Now it closes tight, opens relatively easy, and stays attached.

48 hr count down to maiden flight starts at 1:00 p.m. EST today. I feel like a kid waiting for Xmas. But I guess we all get that way about a new plane.

Hey Guys

I'm taking off for the first time tomorrow if all goes well. Supposed to be 53, partly cloudy with about 5 mph winds in the late afternoon!

Unfortuneately I don't have a video camera handy or I'd take some

Maybe some photos if I can get my wife to come

Unfortunately, the only video camera I have is my digital camera. I'll see if my son will record, but cant promise on quality. A friend told me today he was going to make me a deal on a QQ 50cc yak that I couldnt refuse. Said I had to come over saturday to see his new 150 cc TOC Yak, and his new 75 cc Aeroworks Extra 260. Wish I had that kind of money. Anyways the QQ yak has a DA 50 and all JR servos. I have flown it a couple of times, its SWEET.

Jimeni ... seen a guy here with the 50cc and 100cc QQ Yak, both fly really well. If I were to go to a nice 100cc EP, it will be the QQ Yak.

Well, not going to get video of the maiden flight tomorrow, my son can't go. Going to try to fly sunday also, he should be able to go then. Hopefully we can get video.

I am definately curious as to what kind of deal he is going to offer me on the QQ yak. I know I would love to have it.

HOOOOO LLLLYYY *&%^! It flies nice!!!

I can't belive how responsive it is, but from the trainer type planes I've flowin before this, I guess you can expect I'd be happy with it. Straight as an arrow, beautiful handling, it finally deadsticked and my buddy Tony, that helped me build it, luckily was willing to head out with me this first time. I threw it to him and he landed it perfectly in the grass without ripping out the pants or anything. We suspect the glow plug was beat down (used saito 100, but you can't beat for $150 for an almost new 100!)

I have to do a few fixes (screws on the hatch/canopy didn't hold well, rubber on the servo clevises) but otherwise, CAN"T WAIT TO FLY IT AGAIN!
