I have mine mounted inverted and have the low end as lean as possible. The down side to this is that on waterfalls I have had the motor quit with rapid increase & decrease in throttle.

key is finding a happy spot. I would definately put up with a little shaking over having a dead stick. another thing I do is listen for the rpm drop when removing the glow stick. the richer it is the more your rpms will drop.

Yep, that is why I have it set so lean on the low end. Set up inverted and set lean, there is still a noticeable drop in RPM when glow is removed. As long as I don’t go full open/close/open/close/open real fast (as in fast waterfall—this FL is capable of wicked fast WF’s ) then I don’t have a problem.

Well guys, It looks like my fliton days are over. I was doing some tinkering on it trying to get things worked out when I realized the plane is pretty much trashed. I was trying to start it the other day and was having those engine problems. Well, it backfired, rolled back and chipped the prop on the stand.

Apparently when it did this it broke the engine box free of the fire wall AND the firewall is cracked at the top, clear across.

Overall I have been very disappointed with this plane. It flew great the few times I got to fly it, but it was a huge pain to build, and fell apart not even in the air. How very disappointing that I will not get to see what it can do

Hey Jemini

Is the aeroworks almost as fun to fly? Better built? Easier build? Is the saito 100 too much for it?

I'm done with this POS, and need to move onto something else.

The Aeroworks edge is fine. I think if I had the money though, I would try the 60 to 90 Yak or Extra 260. You already have all the stuff. But you will not be dissapointed in the edge either. The Fliton does fly a bit better than the AW Edge, but from what I'm seeing, it will have nothing on the Extra or Yak.

On your Fliton. Its wood, epoxy will fix it. It cant be that bad. If its just cracked, but still in place, put a piece of light ply, or thin balsa strip over the crack, and epoxy away. Add some tri stock to the engine box.

Thanks Jemini

Did you have any issues with the aeroworks (breaking parts, weird fits etc, etc etc) that the fliton has?

I'm just so sick of not even flying this thing and having to fix things every time out. Anyone want this before I bring an axe down on it?

Nope. The edge is a very straight forward build, with excellent parts, hardware, and instructions. The new Extra, and Yak are quick builds. You'll be flying in about 6 to 8 hours. Aeroworks, as an added bonus, has about the best customer service you can get. Not to mentiobn all the pretty ladies showing you the models

I have the AW Extra 60-90 and I had the Fliton Edge. I like the AW Extra more than the Fliton once it's in the air. I like the AW WAYYY more than the fliton between box and air. I think that the AW flies much better than the Fliton

Hey Guys

Here's some shots. You can see the tabs broke on the bottom. ANd the engine box broke away on both sides on the bottom.

The top of the firewall (that the engine box is attached to) is giving, back and forth. Like it's soft.

What do you think repair would entail on this?

I would cut the motor box completely loose, leaving remaining tabs intact. Clean off old epoxy edges, and get everything to a nice fit. Epoxy it on with more tristock where the tabs are broken, and probably several other spots. Fix crack as stated previously. From the pictures, I would say 1 to 1/2 hours work tops, it does not look that bad. When your done, it will be stronger than ever. Your plane has alot of life left. You already have it, use it up. Then you can take your time deciding on the replacement.

Do you mean cut the motor box free of the firewall, or just on the bottom 2 tabs?

I was thinking I'd have to cut it off and put a new piece of ply over the whole firewall for reinforcement. But how to you get the motorbox secure to the firewall again without having any tabs? Is the tri stock and epoxy enough? I'm not been overly impressed with expoxy, but maybe i"ve been using it wrong

Remove the whole box from the fuselage and clean up old epoxy edges so you can get a clean, flush fit. Dont remove the remaining tabs. You can re epoxy the broken ones on for alignment if you want, but you will be able to tell where to place the box. Unless you put something through the tabs once they are through the bulkhead, they dont add that much strength anyways, they are mainly for alignment. Put a coat of epoxy down before you position the tristock, once in place, coat the tristock also. Tristock with epoxy in a corner is extremely strong. A flat end blade for your exacto will make removal easier. Just work it throught the gaps to seperate things. Heating up the wood and epoxy with a heat gun or blow dryer will help get through it big time. Remember, the motor box comes from the factory with about 25% of the tristock it needs, in my opinion.

Ok, so when I go to put it back on only the tri stock and epoxy would be holding it on? Should i put a thin piece of ply on the bulkhead before I reattach the enginebox to strenghten the whole thing?

Yes, thats all that was holding it on anyways. The notches on the tabs help a little but not alot, more for engine box positioning. I would put a strip of thin ply on the crack, or just stop drill the crack on each end (keeps the crack from growing), and put epoxy on it, both sides. Put up a picture of the crack, there may be another way.

Hey guys, my experienced builder friend helped me get it bandaged up to fly

ONE last PROBLEM... The weather is getting BEAUTIFUL for flying, BUT, I just found out my radio (spektrum Dx6i) has a recall for the pentiontiontotnoentoneontenot...meter (whatever the hell it is). And mine is exhibiting the problem. So I sent it in. Which leave me with my Dx5e.

This is a very manual radio. No expo. Has 1 dualrate (ele, ail, rudd same swtich). SOOO I'm dialing down the mechanical throws to very safe landing posistions. What do you think I should set the ele and ail to for landing (low rate)?
Thanks
TIm

Recently I have had a chance to fly my Extra 330 Freestyle a lot,....... man I love this plane!!!! I am finally getting the bugs worked out of it and enjoying it for the great flying plane that it is. I am powering it with a Saito 82 and either a 14x6 APC or 14x6 MAS scimitar prop, have not decided which I like better. The Satio 82 is barely enough motor to hover but other than pull out is a nice fit for this plane. I have a Satio 100 that I will probably put on the Extra 330 Freestyle later this summer just to see the difference. I am by no means a 3D pilot but this plane really makes me look good! All the guys at the field have commented on how much better I am getting, truth is this plane makes me look good!! I see that many shops have the Extra 330 freestyle back in stock, maybe Fliton has not gave up on this plane yet?

Luis ... try this:

Motor - AXI 4130/16 (many tried this combo and its good for 6S), you can also look into a Hyperion 4025-12 for 5S on a 16x10 or 16x12 or the Hackers
ESC - any 80A ESC, you can try the Turnigy if you do not wish to splurge, if not get a CC85HV
Batt - Rhino 20C 6S 3,700 for good 3D performance or Rhino 5S packs for good aerobatic performance
Prop - 16x10 E

Hey guys - for those of you still on the thread here - I ended up wrecking mine in a moment of bad judgement. Lost it in silohette on a day I was feeling sick.

Point being, I have a few parts if anyone want to pick some up.

I have a RIGHT wing in very good shape (went down on the left). I have the tail section. So if you want an extra rudder and elevator surface. I have landing gear, and canopy. Sadly, that is all

If you want to make an offer on any of it, I would be happy to sell it and have it go to use.

Figure someone might think it's a good idea to have a few extra pieces on hand for hangar rash or other.

pm me
Thanks
Tim

Bummer. I put mine in today also. I got a little luckier. All I need is a left wing. Bent the gear too bad to straighten, but I already have the replacement gear, just have not put them on yet. Flew about 5 flights after I realized I was wore out, bad idea. So if anybody has a left wing, I would be interested.

Yeah, I learned from it though. I had heard it suggested to keep the plane lower to the ground on my approaches so I didn't have to bleed off as much speed. I really don't have a problem with coming down and bleeding off the speed, plus it gives you the advantage of knowing what direction the plan is pointed. If it's level the whole time there is less visual indicators as to whether it's going away or coming towards.

Being sick it flipped on me visually, and I was too "off" that day to know what it was doing and it was only 15 feet or so off the ground.

well, you live and learn.

I picked up the extra from Aero-Works. Just got it 2 days ago - looks really nicely crafted. I wrecked the fliton about a month ago - so I didn't get to fly it much. FLew great. I hope this AW flies as well

I dumb thumbed in a rolling harrier 4 foot off the ground. This plane does the best slow roll rolling harriers, except when your tired.
