Status: offline 		Thanks Martin! That 35% Decathlon was my new flagship (built and delivered a year ago).

The covering I always use is Oracover.

The colors are Oracover (iron-on)
Standard Colors - 21-010 White and 21-052 Dark Blue
Orastick (self-adhesive)
Standard Color - 25-020 Red for Invasion and fuse stripes.

If you wish, I can send you a pair of scale ACRO stickers (they´re done in 35% but at 33% a little oversized nobody will notice the difference)

Paint on fiberglass parts is automotive enamel, I had the colors matched at a professional paint mixer. Clearcote is also automotive.

Thank you so much. The red at the bottom of the wing is self adhesive aswel? Do you remeber roughly how much you used? Oracover is sold in the USA under the name Ultracote.
Oracover = Ultracote
21-010 = HANU870
21-052 = HANU883
25-020 = ???

I assume Hangar 9 took over the Oracover collection and renamed them under own brand. If I was Oracover I would not allow that. After all, the brand is your most important asset, and in their case, stands for quality. Period.

You can use Ferri red instead of the Red I mentioned. It was sticking cote as well. But you can Iron-on the stripes as well. Roughly I use 4-5m of white, 6-8 m of Blue and 1,5-2m of red. Remember, all those pinstripes around the starbursts are also red. And it´s repeated 6 times on the entire plane. That´s why I used sticking folie instead of iron-on.

Thinking about shaping some urethane foam with the cnc machine then cover it with some glass.

any other ideas?

See PDF for last rib shape. This drawing includes 1/8inch(3.18mm) sheeting both sides and trail and leading edge balsa. Measurements in drawing are in Millimeters.
Yeah was thinking balsa blocks as well but they are not locally available. Since i have a CNC machine it should not be so hard to make one from Foam.
But lets see if yours fit.

considering my plane is 35% my wingtips would obviously be bigger.
Profilewise they´re more bulged as I use the original NACA 2412 profile, and WH uses a flatter profile.
Chordwise mine are 557mm against yours at 538mm... that gives you some 19mm difference to cut off at the end.

Means my wingtips would fit but not without some reworking on them: I´d suggest splitting them chordwise, trimming off "the excess (some 5mm or roughly 3/16 to 1/4")" and rejoining them to make them a little flatter. Also, before joining them, trimming off some 19mm (roughly some 3/4") on the rear (parallel to the slanted TE). Sand all edges flush and voilá, you got some nice pair of FG tips to screw onto your wings. Less fussing than carving molds and laminating.

Can be yours for USD 80,- a pair, S&H included (remember, I live in Brazil)...). You must have a PayPal account.
Would like to show a picture of my tip, but the server tells me repeatedly they have an internal error.

Status: offline 		Hey Martin, I made my wing tips out of that pink insulating foam(it also comes in blue ) that you get at a lumber yard. I cut the basic shape with the bandsaw, then worked down to the final shape with rasp and coarse sand paper, got them exactly how I wanted them, then glassed them . They came out good. I'll put some pics on sometime but today is not good as we got hammered with snow over night. They are reeasonably light not sure if as light as balsa would have been, but cheaper. Joe

Status: offline 		Hello Bob, Yes I have been concerned with using those threaded inserts, looked at other options and decided to use them. there is a huge amount of stress at those locations especially where the struts mount. I couldn't find another way without some other problem popping up. If you have any good ideas please let me know. I would change to something else if it looks good in a heart beat. I've never posted a question about these inserts, but have never read where they have failed on the Hostetler design. Maybe the plywood webbing in that area is all it needs. I agree with you, the inserts really weaken the spar.

Status: offline 		rick, you are the engineer. theres a 1/4 x 1/2 basswood spar.they want to drill into the spar in 2 places, 1 close to the root to hold the wing and struts on.well, when you drill 1/4 " hold into a 1/2" wide spar, theres not a lot left for strength.hard to photo the plans, drop by the shop over the weekend.

Status: offline 		HI Guys; I had the same concern with the screws in the spar so I used a 10/32 blind nut inside the inboard wing ribs and bolts from the inside of the fuselage cabin. it must go thru 2 cabin ribs so I used a piece brass tubing for a guide to line up the bolts with the blind nut in the wing has worked out well maybee an option for you to consider cheers John

Status: offline 		actually, thats the way you mount the wings on the balsa usa super cub. it's a pain to get your hands inside the cabin door with a allen key and than get up to the wing mounts.it works but..........
