I just received my Hellcat and it looks great... haven't decided if I want to repaint or not... the glossy sea blue seems awful dark and I don't want to risk losing attitude awareness when it's in the air.

I have a question though.... this is the biggest model I have owned and I'm wondering about engines.. I can't afford a nice 4-stroke so I'm thinking either a Super Tiger G-90 or G 2300... I was thinking the 2300 because it would be a lower RPM bigger prop thing, plus it might sound better than the G-90... but it is a few ounces heavier than the G-90 but not much bigger in actual size... can any of ya'll offer some guidance on this? I will be mounting it sideways so I'll have to cut a hole in the cowl anyways....

Thanks...
Casey

Pete I just eyeballed the stab and put a 1/4 dowl at the trailing edge . I did put a incidense meter on it just to make sure both were the same.
Casey I fly mine with a Magnum 91 FS and it flys it ok I will change it to a 120 before summer. I think I would go with the G 2300 you will probably need the nose weight anyway. I mount my motors sideways to. I don't like the hassel of an inverted motor. Rich

Thanks Baldeagle, That is pretty much what I figured as nothing is called out in the assembly instructions. Almost finished with it.

Is this the same Hellcat that Giant Scale Planes sells?

Thanks Richard. I'm trying to decide between a Hellcat or a FW-190 A series. Just like them radial engines, I guess.

Hi Warks62,

Looks nice!

I wanted to know what your using for an exhaust on that Saito 150. Any pics before you fit the cowl? Let us know how she flies.

Regards,

Where is everyone finding the best deal on the CMP Hellcat. I have seen them several places, but it seems all of the sources have their "stories" to go along with the service. Any good reliable sources with good pricing?

PeteJoMan, I figure you have the plane already. I used a Dremel and removed the ply floor that is in the retract bay. Then took the hardwood that came with the kit and sanded it a little thinner so that the retract would fit between them. I set in the wood (Dry) to check fit and angles. It took a while but I was trying to not have to touch the spar. They will fit pretty nice just run the rear air line through the hole that is in the spar but I didn't have to touch the spar. I felt that it would weaken the wing if I did. Then I epoxied the hardwood to each side rib and the sheeting. You will notice that the ribs are ply in the retract bay and very strong. To keep the max wood available on the mounting blocks I cut grooves in them where the screws are on the side of the 615's. They do fit good when all done but did take a while to get the angles right. Then I put 7/16" Robart legs and 4" Robart scale wheels on them.

WYDAH, I will take a pic next time the cowl is off but all I did was turn the exhaust header down and to the left side slightly and then added an aluminum tube extension to it. I cut it at angle to match the cowl. You can see it in the 1st and 3rd pics. You have to turn the needle richer to compensate for the fact that you are not pressurizing the tank but runs and sounds great. I think I might try a Perry pump on it and see if it makes a difference.
