How will AFPD work with my Radeon 9000 pro 128mb card? I am interested in buying this but I really don't want to have to buy a new card right now. It is important to me that the simulator run smooth and look good. What can I expect for performance with this card my computer specs are windows xp 1.7Ghz 512mb ram Radeon 9000 pro 128mb video card.

I have the ati 9800 pro with 128 m and it works great
my system is a 3.0 g with 512 ram

I'd stay with 9700 or 9800 and nothing less.

The radeon 9000 pro 64MB is the very card I have and it works extremly well. I just tried upgrading my card only because I'm going to set up my son's computer for decent graphics now and use the 9000 card in that. Stay away from the third party ATI manufacturers, the cards are NOT the same and perform very poorly. I bought a 9600 card made by a third party and sold at Circuit City. Was a good price and I figured the same as the Radeon 9600. Not so. matter of fact the performance was less than my original 9000 card. Took it back, discussed the fact to the manager that his sales people did not know what they were talking about when they sold it to me and then ordered a real Radeon 9700 online. Still going to put the 9000 into my son's computer so he can continue to kick my butt flying this year.

Bottomline is yes, the Radeon 9000 Pro card is very good and you will get frame rates close to 200 and as far down as 40-50 when maxed out with intense graphics and smoke.

Video cards....most confusing!

OMP's site suggests any of the ATI 9XXX series is fine...so I purchased an ATI Radeon 9600XT for AFPDeluxe...Your above causes me to wonder ("...stay w/ 9700 or 9800.."

. I've a Dell 4600, P4, 2.4Ghz, 1.2G memory....will I see optimal, or at least very good performance, w/ the 9600XT...or not? Thanks.

Should have added: And then there is the 9600XT All-in-Wonder vs. the 9600XT......is one better suited for AFPDeluxe than the other (I'm not certain which one is on coming...). Thanks.

Thats not exactly the case You get what you pay for. The manufactors buy the chipsets off ATI and make advancments/changes to the boards. Alot of the gigabyte,xfx cards are rated higher than the plain on ATI's. But thats off topic the 9000 will work fine. Personally im using a RAdeon 9800 Pro 256 Meg and It works like a charm.

Mike is talking truth there. You have to make sure of the chipsets on the cards. It needs to be something well known like Gigabite and stuff like that, dunno my brother usually advises me on this one. You can buy a specific card from one shop and go buy the same one at the next shop and their chips could be totally different. I've gone through a ditch on this one before where I bought from a small unknown computer shop and the card was a serious loss. Threw it in the dustbin at the end of the day.

Currently I'm running a ATI Radeon 9600 on my pc. It's a 3.2 prescot dual processing thingamagic thingy with 512 Ram and my AFPD runs very well. I'm sure a bigger graphics card would help things along alot as when I run everything high quality and switch on the smoke things get a little sticky. But turn the graphics down a tiny bit and she's as smooth as silk.

Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB should work great unless you try to run it with very high resolution ( 1600x1200 etc ). So a 1024x768 or 1280x1024 should both look great and have some 50-70 FPS performance with most models and sceneries... Get the latest driver from ATI and maybe experiment with the ATI control pannel settings. I am using AFPD with ATI Radeon 9600 XT 128 MB ( from Sapphire ) and with NVIDIA 5200 128 MB and it's working fine.
Also I can run simper sceneries ( not Winzeln ) and simpler models ( not Spitfire ) on a laptop with ATI Mobile radeon 7500 32MB video ram w/ Windows XP. But altogether the modern 3D video cards like Radeon or GeForce FX need latest drivers and sometimes some tuning to work well..

I'm sure there are differences in third party manufactureres. All use the ATI chipset if that is what they are advertising but there are other differences in the architecture of the card and the internal clock rates. Don't believe what you read on the box. Search online for reviews and your eyes will be opened. I found out the 9600 clone I bought at Circuit City was very poor first hand. Could not figure out why the performance was less than my real 9000 card until I went online and found the reviews. Turns out there are several internal clock speeds associated with various busses on the card and not all take the high road.

The best source for reviews is "tomshardware.com"

Bottomline though all the ATI 9xxx cards work very well.

I agree and Disagree with you. While the "architecture" Is slightly changed in sold chipset'd card such as gigabyte,asus etc There usually made for the better. New fans/clock speed increases are a common feature. If you want to take a look the highest rated Preformance card via benchmarks is made by gigabyte.

As I said, there are differences in each third party manufacturer. I know for a fact that some out there are junk. I learned first hand, did my research on line and talked with several experts at a real computer upgrade store here locally. If you don't believe it do some research on "tomshardware.com". Plus I have a masters in EE and used to design computer interface circuitry in my earlier years. Believe it or not I even have one US Patent to my name.

Bottomline is do your homework on graphics cards before you buy. I beleive we've answered the question of this post haven't we. Oh, forgot Ray, the "all in wonder" version of the ATI cards merely means the card includes a tv tuner built in so you can plug your cable into it and watch tv. means nothing relative to playing the games or sims. Just more bells and whistles if you want to pay for it.
