For those of you who are unsure of the meaning of "necromancy" have a look here

Still not sure how asking to jump a lawn mower thats in one of your pics is really that evil, just having a joke (as you can probably tell i dont frequent the local church that much.)

I bought this camera over 4 years ago. I like it because it has a 3.5 inch LCD screen, that's big!! My only complaint about it is the noise you can hear coming from the camera in some of the videos I do without music. In 4 years of constant use, from the back of a jet ski, snow ski trip, to stuff on quads to the dusty track environment and real bull fights in Mexico and nothing has ever gone wrong with it. I keep a clear lens cap on it to keep the optics clean (better to replace a $4 clear lens cover than mess up the optics) I also have the long life battery. Now you can have all of this (except for the large LCD screen, they quit using them to reduce costs) with HD capablity for a lot less than I spent 4 years ago!!!

Oh almost forgot, it's a Sony DCR-TRV30.

Thanks 2D
i've been looking at the "JVC EVERIO G" series they come with 20,30,50 gig hard drives.
30 gig seems to be the best value (around $1299 oz) ,sounds a bit, but i dont mind spending a bit on quality! I've played around with a Panasonic (non digital) cam corder but sheilding it from the wind is a must, nothing but wind noise all the time, even from the slightest breeze.
My only other thought about hard drive versions is that if you go overseas or on any decent holiday for that matter, what do you do with the footage once the h/drive is full. I guess you have to take a Laptop along & download ? (some do take SD cards but i dont know how much they hold in the way of video. (All this would be for filming Lst of course (that was said just to keep this topic in line with the lst forum) LOL) .

One hour of DV video is 12gig. I rarely fill a tape in one outing but can just pop in another. The noise on some of my video's is from the motors that move the tape I think. It's not that big a deal but it's irritating sometimes because it will happen during one session and not the next within 10 minutes of each other on the same tape.

I like the idea of the harddisk camera's but I like the idea of solidstate memory camera's better. It would be nice to have a 30gig solidstate memory camera, maybe someday soon. I bet even with a harddisk camera you will be able to copy to your computer faster than realtime, which is not possible with DV tape of course.

It takes one hour to copy one hour of DV video from tape via IE1394/Firewire!! That would be one of the big advantages with having a hardddisk or solidstate memory.

Make sure you read the reviews on those JVC camera's here.

I use that site to get a feel what end users are saying about highend electronics before I make a purchase.

I like LST's. (keeping on topic)
