Anybody know the advantage of having the props turn different directions? I can understand from the left to right wing. But on the same side of the plane I can't see the plus side.

My 2 cents is that it helps cancel the horrendous propeller wake created by those gigantic fans. Remember that this modern military airlifters are capable of frontline deliveries on dirtstrips and when under fire on the runway from snipers, mortars and artillery they have to get airborne in a hurry. No time to space in long intervals the emergency takeoffs of a long string of escaping airlifters. They have to be able to get airborne with a minimum of spacing when evacuating a runway under mortar or artillery or sniper fire. The less turbulent the wake of those giant props the closer they can string the emergency departure. Just my 2 cents of course. 'Nuff said. God Bless y'all.

Yes you look like a pregnant gray whale. Fat a$$.

Do you expect everyone to take you seriously when you say something as exceedingly rude as that?

He said it almost a year ago. Perhaps he has matured a bit since then. (And, no I don't believe people who make such remarks should be taken seriously.)

It helps with engine torque,, you know how you have a model with a strong engine on it,, and you shoot the gas to it and it gets squirely,, same principal ,, but they are turning the other engine opposite to cancel or offset the torque,,

What's for sure, you haven't read the "RCU policies".

I think you need to google your answer and re think it.

Counter rotating engines on trainers put the decending blade on the inside to make the arm on the P factor and torque less in the event that one quits, making it not have a critical engine, (or both are critical if you have ever lost one). On the p-38 they spun them the other way to make it less stable with one turning, but they could use offset throttle in turns to whip it around quicker.

You are absolutely correct in re the descending blade closest to the centerline (and not only on trainers...check out a Piper PA-31 Chieftain).

The P-38, however, was designed to also have the descending blade on the inside but in that configuration the horizontal stabilizer and the elevator shook too much at some airspeeds so the switch to descending-blade-outside was made.

I sure hope the new Airbus planes have better seat

Everytime I ride on one my rear end hurts. They really need better seats! Even the 20+ year old 747s have better seats.
