care to amend your forecast?

Strykaas -> RE: INCREDIBLE PLANE ! LOOK ! (6/1/2005 10:50:20 PM)

lol [:D] 2-6 months delay

At least, these airlines will get a good rebate [sm=greedy.gif]... Only 4 airlines are impacted.

I would be happy to know what has shifted ???

boss_blueangels -> RE: INCREDIBLE PLANE ! LOOK ! (6/1/2005 11:49:07 PM)

I don't think that was a stupid question... it is still going to take a heck of a long time to load and unload that thing. It takes a while in any plane, let alone one that large.

One interesting thing I recently read in a magazine... Airbus currently has about 161 customers, and will need 300 to break even. Boeing has yet to actually build their 787 and already has some 230 cfirm orders, and a total of 429 on order by proposals so far. Humm...

And also there are supposed to be just 60 airports that will be ready for the A380 by 2010.

robert -> RE: INCREDIBLE PLANE ! LOOK ! (6/3/2005 8:55:41 PM)

Here we go again......Both will be succesful in their niche markets. Things like this are often decided by governments when they go on trips to different countries, numbers mean very little.

For those that are interested. Some interior shots of the A-380 test bed.

We went to see the A380 at Le Bourget, and it looked even better in the flesh. It flew very majestically and was very impressive. It was parked right infront of us, and the site and sound of it starting its engines was incredible. It stole the show, and was the cause of a record attendance of over 110,000 I think. The crowd cheared alot for the Airbus crew in the A318, A340-600 and the A380. Very impressed!

Maybe you have not been introduced to one of our recent American aircraft which has just been put into the US Military flight line.

Mr. Airbus meet Mr. F-22 Raptor, the new owner of planet Earth's air dominance.

Bigger doesn't always mean better.

fly109 -> RE: INCREDIBLE PLANE ! LOOK ! (6/29/2005 9:19:27 PM)

I'm new to this thread but I just had a few question and remarks. First of all, yes the 380 is a wonderful thing and congrats are in order. I noticed that the original post was aimed squarely at insulting Americans by introducing a “take that American companies” –attitude with the “kicking ass” remark. Okay, no problem.[:D]

But I noticed on page 3 when William Robinson remarks that he has doubts about the aircrafts validity and uses the word “Loser”, the next post from the original poster was that his words were too Harsh and that he’d gone too far? Geeesh!!!!!!!!!! I guess I don’t get why Europe is so set about having more airliner sales than a single American Company, does this make you feel good? Was not the original remark too harsh as well?

A question was asked to name a failure of Airbus. Wasn’t Airbus born from the consortium formed out of the manufacture of Concorde? What does that say? [:-]Well, only time and real world economics will tell if this behemoth is a true success or not. My guess is that it is a day late and a dollar short. Pity – it is a real fascination to marvel at just like the Concorde.

P.S. Boeing is the clear ass kicker[;)]

Haldir -> RE: INCREDIBLE PLANE ! LOOK ! (7/1/2005 4:36:05 PM)

100 % agree. And that's why I used these terms to mention that for one particular product (mass transport aircraft) , Boeing lost this particular battle (as the extended b747 cargo version showed it). Just teasing... And then wooosh, anti European rock n roll !!

Intent was in no way insulting.

By the way, many Airbus a380 on board equipments are proudly made in America.

From what I have read in forums and the media, I thought that it was the other way round. Its pretty clear, especially in this thread, that the success of Boeing or Airbus is nearly a matter of patriotic pride more than anything. It goes for both sides.

I also noticed that the media have spun the A380 and 787 to make it look like only one can be succesful. There is no reason why neither should be succesful IMO. One will probably make more $$$ than the other but they both cater for holes in the market, so I don't think that it is a case of one being victorious while the other is a flop.
I obviously can't see into the future though.

By the way, when I said Boeing is the clear ass kicker, I used the [;)] kinda tounge in cheek if you know what I mean. I guess my point is that I didn't know that there was such a desire to out-do America. For instance when I see the B-2, F-117, F22, and so on, I don't think to myself "take that .....................(any other country's name here[;)])" unless they have the misfortune of being the purpose for which they were built, then all bets are off. [>:][:D]I can honestly say that when I first saw the 747 fly back in the 70s I did not for a minute think "wow, I hope those Europeons are watching - this should really pi$$ them off!" Actually I was just amazed at the achievment of aviation much like I am when I see the 380 fly.

But as far as winning any "battle for dominence" in the airliner market, my opinion is that it will take years for the numbers to show the real story. It is interesting to watch, I will give you that. Here you have, Airbus putting a lot of faith and dollars into what they believe to be the future of commercial air travel. On the other hand you have Boeing, who lets face it, if they were asked "could you build a really big four engine airliner"? Would probably smile and say something like "Hi, we're Boeing, you know, the guys that did that 30 years ago...read 747" (Wink Wink). It is easy to see the mass and beuty of such a beast as the 380 and think that it is all over but Boeing didn't get to where they are by making bad decisions. I would bet that they are holding a few cards and see a little sweat rolling off the perverbiale face of Airbuss. [;)]

By the way, just so there is no loss of communication in the verbage here, nothing I say is meant to offend either. Peace out, err, I mean - Cheers[8D]

U know what almost funny about this piece due shiot, and it is. Whats funny is that a few moron airlines will buy it even though they can't attest to is safety (not a big deal to airjunk as proved over and over) but that the nasta will let 'em fly it it the U.S. depite any obivious shortcummings i.e. 7 FRIGGIN NOSE GEAR FAILURES!!!!!!! O.K. air bus , who ya blowin?

Willdo -> RE: INCREDIBLE PLANE ! LOOK ! (10/11/2005 10:51:49 AM)

"Mine's better than yours, yes but mine's bigger, no it isn't, anyway, our education is better, etc.etc."
All I can say is thank God that I live down under, where there is still some fresh air and simplicity in life, a good ( as in reasonable) standard of living, freedom of choice, be able to hop on a Boeing, or an Airbus and travel anywhere without caring which I'm on and above all, not be totally neurotic through being involved in the struggle to be the greatest power on earth.

Look around! - there are other more serious things looming, people trying to undermine and destroy you both, while mother nature is conspiring against everyone.
The days when being the star is paramount, - are virtually over!

World events in recent years ( or weeks) put an entirely new perspective on our ( humans) ability to do anything of significance to deal with them, and I doubt if any expensive new airliners or warplanes whether American or European, will be able to change these situations.

In saying all this, I do realise of course that down here, we could have our share of troubles too, ( earthquakes, volcanoes etc.) but of course we just have to accept these things as being out of our control!
Just as an example, - doesn't the Airbus look a little insignificant beside Mt St Helens when the bubble bursts? !! [8|]

Personally I would not get in any Airbus for any amount of money. They are crashes waiting to happen. I do give credit where its due though. At the present rate of loss Airbus will catch Boeing in about 7 years best I can figure. Let's see Boeing started building airliners when?[8D] Airbus?
