that's where I set mine for it's first flights. It was very stable at this location....nearly perfect. I did end up adding a couple oz of weight in the tail to move it back a smidge more and it's still extremely stable.
You won't have any problems with that CG.

Well I finally got to maiden the Carden Extra 330S, All I can say is WOW !!, what a great airplane. The DA-100 started with no problems and ran great. I taxied away and took off ,did a few patterns around the field, it required No trim at all. This plane really does everything great, rolls are like the are on a rope, and I can't believe how slow and stable it is landing. I am really impressed with this Airplane. Thanks to all who answered my posts during the build. Here are some pics from the field, By the way the graphics were designed and cut by Aerographix. (www.Aerographix.biz), They really make the plane stand out in my opinion. Thanks again ,Jack.

Really nice looking plane, Jack. I have owned two of the 40%'s and I can tell you that you will continue to be impressed as long as you own this one! Nice.

Jack,

Your Extra looks great. Glad to hear the maiden went well. I feel the same way about mine....so much so I plan to purchase another 35% Extra kit to keep as a spare!

Hello everyone,

Well, I am now the proud owner of a 35% Edge 540 kit from Carden.
It will be coming from via the "brown man" this Friday. Looks like I will be having a fun weekend.
I look forward to being part of this great Carden family and will be posting my build progress
and asking questions if needed along the way.

Glad to hear it Tom , I hope this means that they are going to get the 40% Edges next. I"ve had one on order for 3 months, also the DA 150s are not avaliable.

We must be the luckiest people alive! My son and I order 35 and 40% extras from Dennis and Caroline and got them both very quickly, reportedly this doesn't always happen due to high demand, and ordered our DA 100 and 150 on monday and they're on their way. I really enjoy building my 35%er more than my son's 40%er...I think i feel less nervous and less intimidated of the size. These are fantastic kits, they remind me of the MK pattern kits from the 80's. The quality of the wood and the precision of the cuts requires NO prep work before gluing.

jmiracle and Jack,

May I ask what throws are recommended for Low Rate & High Rate for the 35% Extra ??
And how much expo did you use?

thanks, Ward

Ward,

I can't say anymore exactly how much throw I'm using.....i've tweaked it quite a bit since it first flew last spring. I started by setting high-rates for all the throw I can get without binding.

Low rates are

Ail: 62% throw/40% expo
elev: 55% throw/45% expo
rudder: 100% throw/35% expo

high rates are

Ail: 125% throw/65% expo
elev: 130% throw/65% expo
rudder: 135% throw/60% expo

Hope this helps.

thanks jmiracle,

Right now I can get 40-45 degree's from elevators for high, Ailerons around 30 degree's and rudder around 40-45 degree's.

so, elevators would be 55% or 22 degree's for low rate, sounds about right?

yup....sounds about right....if i remember right, i got right around 45 degrees on my elev.

just a note.....i tend to setup my planes on the soft side....i've never liked a really touchy plane.
