Just opened my edge and i am really impressed with the quality. A lot better than some hanger nine stuff. Any way after looking at the wing attachment method i think i will make a system up like the sig something extra has. That system hasnt failed yet even though it sounds like it is a wierd way of mounting the wing I usually just changed the rubber bands after several days of flying to be on the safe side i just dont care about just putting a sheet metal type of screw to depend holding wings. Like one of the previous post said they could vibrate loose and fail just my 2 cents worth Bruce

I am helping my friend assemble his AW Edge. After reading these horror stories I need to know what we need to beaf up, I would also like some ideas on servo choices. I was thinking 2 Hitec 225's in the rear and 625's everywhere else, or does the rudder need a 645. I want to get 3D rates in the tail, that's important, that's what the planes for afterall. Is it stronger and better to have to dual servos in the rear, how will it mess up the CG with an OS 91 pumped 4-stroke? Should flying wires be added to the tail, if so is there anything else that could be done, it's already glued on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I'm thinking...

    (1) ds9411 for the Rudder
    (4) ds3421s for the Ailerons and Elevators
    (1) ds368 for the Throttle

Saito 1.50 for the fuel economy over the Saito 1.80.

    16oz fuel tank

Batteries America 1650mah NiMH 4.8v or possibly 720mah.

Should come in at 9 lbs.

I forgot to mention mine which arrived today did have a supplement insruction tip which said to mount tail wires on stab , had a question also on wing attachement are you guys using the supplied sheet metal screw which is kind of funky way of attachment for wing or tapping using a regulare bolt like 6/32 i noticed that the wing tube appears to be solid with some kind of material inside of it whats your opions???

Well gang, I just got of the phone with Rocco, from A/W. I
voiced my concerns and thoughts about the problem with
the stab on our 540 60/90 size. They have sent out over 250
planes so far, and their area alone, he has seen 10 of them flying. There have been only 2 of the problems with the horizontal
stab. Rocco himself has over 75 flights on the protoytpe, and
JUST RECENTLY changed the elevator servo from a ....get this...
Futaba 148. Same y-pushrod, same control wire. He changed
because of a little flex when doing blenders, and walls. So, he has put a newer/better/100 tq/ounce in it. Also has one flying
with 2 elevator servos. Rocco said the plane is designed to do
3d stuff, and do it well. He said in polite terms, and in all honesty,
that going on a down line, at full throttle, will tax any plane when
pulling hard on the elevator. He has done a lot of blenders and pop-ups, and walls, never any problems. But, like I do, he does
them at reduced throttle, then power when needed in the manouver. Down lines should not be done at full chat, then pull
up so hard. I agree with this, and Rocco also said that one of the
planes that had the problem did not have any gaps sealed, and the pilot tends to fly at full throttle the whole time. So, if you
are one of the all or nothing guys, Rocco said it would be good to
put some wires or pull/pull wires on the stab to beef it up. He will
be posting here as to how he did it, but it is simple. So, after building a few of their planes, and talking to them at various times, the info is good enough. Rocco said he has also seen some fly with a 4 channel radio, y-harness for ailaerons, set up with full 3d throws, no dual rates, and a aft c.g. Scary stuff. I will be putting my stab in tonight, won`t be bracing it, won`t cut, weld, or otherwise hack it apart. Only thing I will change is to put a
MK elevator bell-crank, so one servo does 2 pushrods for the elevators. Rocco siad he will try one of those too. So, sounds a bit snarkey here guys, but let`s just build the damn plane, keep it simple, don`t add or hack stuff from the plane, seal thye hinge gaps, keep the linkages tight, and see what she does. As for the full throttle stuff, and pulling HARD, get some braces on the back, or do what I do... fire up my Diamond Dust!!!
Sorry about the length, but ....
    Take care everyone.
    Kerry

    Kmac or anyone,

I know I have seen one of these advertised somewhere, but can't remember where or find it now. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Also kmac, what engine are you going use?

    Thanks, Robert.

I use no power during a blender.....don't need to....

Aerosplat - How close to Atlanta are you? I'm in Kennesaw.....we should hook up sometime.....

JBH - I agree. 3D throws should be used at lower power.....several GOOD pilots have no idea what that left stick is for......

I still may add some carbon fiber rods like the Funtana.....

    Pugsley,
I live midway between Lawrenceville and Snellville off the Web Gin House Road. I fly with Hill Top Flyers, field just outside of Loganville. Yeah, I know - this is the "ville" side of Atlanta : . Would love to get together sometime and visit each others field. E-Mail me with your phone number and I will give you a call.
    Thanks, Robert.

I got one of these Aeroworks Edges for Xmas! I put it together in 3 days with a Y.S.91. For the guy who asked earlier, the Y.S. is the better choice between the Saito 100 or Y.S. 91. I called Aeroworks and that was their suggestion and said the Y.S. would also out do the O.S. 91 two stroke they used. I then checked out the HP ratings and spec for both engines and the Y.S. puts out 2hp and Saito 100 puts out 1.8. The Y.s will swing a 15x8 prop as opposed to a 15x6 max on the Saito.
Now, for the split Y pushrod.. I hate those and I also hate to add the extra weight of another servo to the tail. I also hate to add an extra servo period even in the middle with another pushrod. BUILD LIGHT! What did I do? I used 1 Hitec 605 and set up the elevator in a pull-pull configuration. It works beautifully just as it did on my Dave Patrick Ultimate. It's easy to make and takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to hook all up but when done, it is a flawless set up that will withstand any manuever and once the surfaces are trued they STAY! If anyone has any questions about this type of set-up I can explain in detail how and send pics. Good luck guys!
