Hi Mike, I used some 1/4 inch plywood and made a box about 1/2 inch bigger than my servoes. I fitted the servo to it before glueing it to the fuselage. I posted some pictures of it on this forum, Back some time ago. Have not had any problems with it and I have been rough on trying to flat spin it. Hope this helps Wayne M.I see that I uploaded a picture of Tims Spoiler instead of my Big Boy.Hope you dont mind Tim, Any way if you look back at the post you can find pictures of my set-up.

Mike,

On the servos, I haven't done it on the Big Boy in particular, but what I've done in the past is cut the hole in the side of the fuse the size I want it. Then I'll cut some strips of 1/8" light ply 3/8" or 1/2" wide and box that opening in on the inside of the fuselage. You can run the top two extra long if the fuselage needs stiffening up. No need to cut the covering off. Trial fit the pieces, put some CA on them, stick your Exacto knife blade in one on a 45 degree angle or so, then just slide it up and in the hole. Of coarse if you're doing both elevator servo's you can work through one side to get to the other for the first one........

Hi Frank, Randy, Tim, and the rest of you guys out there,

(VERSION 3), Because you know,,, on ocassion ,,, rare instances,,, sometimes,,, I have been known to tear up a plane or two, or three. Also ordering wood to build a spare spoiler and have on hand just in case/probability that I fly a little outside my learning curve with my present Spoiler.

Hey Bill,

Glad to hear from ya! Version 3 eh? Where's 1 & 2?????????? BTW I've never seen you or Randy Racer fly outiside your learning curve! hahahahahahaha The only one that does that is Bubba!! Sure wish this forum had the Tim G's special smile face of stirring the pot.

Version 1 and 2 are in various pieces,,, some large,,,some small,,, mostly small fragments RIP. Version three got to be the charm... right? I build them off the RCM plans that I have but version three will be heavily modified, but I hope not heavy.

Good to hear you guys are in the same boat as us down here in U.C. I sit in the shop looking at that big AW 260 and dreaming of warm weather. By the way, I have taken out 21 ounces so far and plan to take out another 10 when I install the new Fromeco 2600's I just got. Each pack and reg weighs 5 oz. Each of the big NiMH;s weigh 10 oz. I don't know the weight of the ign pack yet, but I will change it out too since I got 3 batt/reg sets. I have take the YS120 off the Big Boy and mounted it on a GeeBee (with straight pipe exhaust)! I am planning to replace the Big Boy motor with a 120 AX soon. I need as big a crowd as possible to watch the GeeBee maiden. I'm pretty sure it will take off and fly at least once. I am, however, uncertain of the outcome of the first landing!

ps. We are trying to initiate the removal of the pine trees at our field. We have a couple of different tacks to get permission and help from the city or a lumber company. Stay tuned for any progess, or lack therof.

Doug,

Glad to hear you could put the AW 260 on a diet.....There for a moment it sounded like it was one of Randy's old planes.

Good news on the Pine trees. It's been way to long since I've been over there, but I do remember them very well. Hope you guys can get through the red tape and get them cut down. That would really open your place up. I've got to make it down there this year sometime.....BTW Randy said if you fly in a circle on 60' leads, the trees aren't a problem. hahahahaha

After shooting with randy today i have found that if he were trying to shoot your big boy and it or he was moving you wouldn't have to worry about making any repairs.

If it's all right with you guys, I'll think I'll pass with shooting pistols with you. It's dangerous enough flying with ya!! Don't think I could handle that much excitement.

Glad to see you're still alive Tim......Do both you guys still have 10 toes?

I was just kidding about the shooting, wouldn't want randy or jim shooting at me. Now if we could just get randy hitting the runway, or at least put some floats no his planes.

Doug,

Nice looking Gee Bee..........I like the creative thinking on the exhaust extension and throttle servo. Are you SURE that prop sticks out past the edge of the cowl?

I have installed the Fromecos and my trusty? new fish scale says 28-5 all up weight. Cans are still in place and I want to keep them. The only thing left is a wing tube and that will only get about 4 oz max. I think it will fly plenty good for me at this weight. I could tell a big difference before the new batts. I have set the regs to 5.9 volts and the servos are much faster, plus they have cool blue LED's that show through the canopy, since the floor is now gone. I guess the DA100 ignition is good for this voltage as well? I can't wait for some flying weather to test the GeeBee. I wish I had one of these 3 years ago but Propnut was too chicken to help my wife get one for me!

Hi fella's, I had a JLB 40 size and now considering the big boy. Where can I pick one up, I checked the Morris site under ARF's and it was empty.

I also put floats on the 40 and had a blast and now I'm considering floats on the JBB, thought it would be exciting flying the low manuevers over the water. Has anyone tried theirs with floats?

Thanks
Jeff

Hi Jeff, Its going to be hard to find a JBB now that it is not being make anymore. There is one being auctioned on e-bay now. The post above shows it. It ends tomorrow. East RC is going to produce a SPOILER ARF version that is much like the BB. It should be out this spring sometime. They post on this forum also. Good luck,Wayne M.
