I have a video on my computer that I saved a while back. Unbelievable sound from the twin engines. Is this the plane you are referring to?

My guess is that there is only one twin outlaw on Earth... Yes it was this incredible one !!

Strykaas, thank you. Well, if the Twin Outlaw is any indication, Erik's Double Dust will be mind blowing when the engines are tuned to peak rev's. Can't wait to hear it!

mmmmmmmmmmmmmroooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

sounded AWSOME!!!!! It didnt seem to fast yet but with some tuning I know it will be faster, I wonder if the added fronatal area of twin props will end up being more of a hinderance rather than a benifit (slowyou down more that speed you up) but one thing is for sure it sings love the sound of twins humming along...I would say from the vidieo that it was only doing 125-135 max but has another 25% more speed capable in it with finer tuning...
If you compare it to this plane thats going 150+ it is nowhere as fast

http://www.whiteknuckleairlines.com/images/video/diamonddan.wmv

good luck on the tuning let us all know with vidieos the trip has been long and were all rooting for you guys to accomplish wht your aiming for!!!

I am not sure of the airfoil of this twin but the original Diamond Dust has a diamond shaped airfoil with about a 5% thickness.

Rev Bro #80 that is just a tip of the iceberg! 2-stroke ducted fan engines are my fetish! (Not in a sexual way, Thank you.) It's just a high revvin' piston power trip! And it's legal in all 50 states!

Speed Junkie,

What a nice sport jet !! Is it one of your designs ? Have you flown it yet ?
You must be a hell of an experimented DF flyer, aren't you ? How many McCoy plugs did you burn ?

We need to get the Twins together, do you ever come down near Charlotte? I flew the Twin Outlaw again last weekend, leaking tank had one engine run lean and quit... Need to replace the tanks I guess. I work in Baltimore sometimes, maybe we can find a field there that'll host a race.......

Glade to see the thread got back to twins, the attach picture was the inspiration for me to build the twin dust, is this your plan? It would be cool to see both planes in the air at the same time, Erik will have to comment on a hooking up. later xxspeed

You should start your own topic for this sort of thing. You will get more results and in the mean time avoid junking up this guys' thread that is really about his plane .

Simon here,

I don't normally look in this section but this caught my eye.

Very impressive.

Just a quick question though....

I live in the UK and we don't ever see any of the Jett engines so this is the first time I have heard one run and whilst it seems to perform well it doesn't seem to really sing.

In the UK the engines to have for fast models are made by a company called Weston UK (www.westonuk.co.uk). The engine is the West 50V1 with the matched manifold and pipe. These a generally attached to their Magnum which makes a nice change from a delta (which I also own and love). For ultimate performance we cut an inch of the manifold and run an APC 8x8 at 22,500rpm.

Personally I think the noise of these engines is just outstanding, listen for yourself
http://www.phillsshed.rchomepage.com/magnumminimovie.WMV

Please don't get me wrong, i'm not criticising anyone or anything I just think it could sound faster

Simon

Simon, I have a West 50 V1 in one of the older Magnums and love that engine, I also shortened the manifold but am running APC 8X9 props and yes it is one of the best running engines I've ever seen, not only powerfull but great idle and transition. By the way they are modified Webra speed .50's. The Jetts that you are listening to were not fully broken in an were running rich, at least that's what was said in the previous posts. If you listen to my twin I also didn't have them synched very well and they have sounded better. It seems like when there is a video camera around nothing happens right, and then you get everything perfect and there's no camera to get it.....

Video of the Twin Outlaw if you haven't seen it...

Hi Simon,

Actually, you would be amazed how many Jett products are shipped to the UK each year Maybe a couple of dozen or so, not too many, but there are a few you might run across. Many are use for sport racing - quite a few are for speed and simple sport applications. Dub sent a couple of the .76L and 1.20L engines there just recently.

As was noted, the engines in the test flight were not at full song (change in prop selection will get them to match the pipe setups better).

Definately nothing wrong with the West .50 engines. Good solid powerplants.

Evan .. of note... they are not really modified Webras. They use webra castings. Most everything else is new. In fact, his new engines (you will see within the next year or so) will be in his own crankcase design (escaping the limitations of a 'stock' product).

Bob

Hi Simon,

I'm in the UK too, I'd never heard of Jett's before I joined this site, now I'm just hooked on them....

There is quite a few Jett engines here, just check out this site and see what engines they all run

All,
We flew it yesterday with cut down props, and the motors taching 19.7K on the ground, and it still was not as fast as the single dust.It sounds awesome, but it is a 150 mph airplane. Not the 200+ we were looking for.Dave is building me a new single. Thanks for all your kind words and support.Ed,if you still want to race,I'm just gonna have to use my Bandit. Is that OK?Or are you gonna ho-hum that also?
I also want to say I can't thank Dave enough for his efforts!Great guy, great builder, and it is my priviledge to have him for a friend! Thanks Dave!!This will end my input to this thread, unless Ed wants to race the Bandit.I don't care what you bring, and what kind of course you wan't to run.
Erik

How about Dave building you a super streamlined Dust? He could cowl the engine like a control line speed model, no exposed servos, etc.

Jett can also do special motor setups like Jett Fan sleeves in FIRE engines, special Macs Marine pipe setups for peak HP. Maybe a 40 or a 46 might be faster than the 50. If they can turn enough more RPM with a lower pitch prop they might be faster. Bob27 could fill in some of these details.

Of course the ultimate goal is to have a flyable plane. Full punch race motors are no fun for sport flying.
