Yes!! My wife Vicki said you MUST have gear doors. That part of the project will start this weekend.

What's the consensus on the CG - does she build tail heavy?

Craig from Fiberglass Specialties just emailed to say he has finished the molds for the tail cone and cowl and is sending mine out today. He has been a real class act, I would always highly recommend them from past experiences as well. Craig didn't have to but he emailed me about once a week to fill me in on his progress and even bought me a new cabin top when the one I sent him got messed up when he was making a mold. I've been ordering from Fiberglass Specialties (and Stan's for that matter) for probably more than 10 years and both have always had top notch service.

I can't wait to get them so I can finish sanding the nose and tail to match the cowls and move on with fiberglassing the fuse. So far, I'm about finished with the wing and will send some pics shortly.

So Fiberglass Specialties will have a glass cabin top available to replace the clear plastic top in this kit? Is that what I understood you to say?

Very cool if that's the way it is.

Hattend...yes but I'm not sure how it's supposed to work. The cabin top that came with the kit is clear so you just tape off the windows before painting. Everything I've seen from Fiberglass Specialties isn't clear so I'm guessing you'd have to paint in your own windows or cut them out of the cabin top and add your own clear plastic ones.

They do have a cabin top for the Bonanza but I've never seen one up close. I'm going to order one of the new ones for mine but am also making a second top out of wood.

I have the Fiberglass Specialties cabin top for the Bonanza. The window outline is molded in, so you just cut along the lines and glue the plastic kit windows in. If they do this for the Piper, it wouldn't be too hard to cut the windows out. The hard part would be butchering the clear cabin top to get the clear bits. The hardest hard part would be trying to get the windshield to have enough "meat" to glue it in.

I'd be interested in seeing your wood top.

Those front windows would definitely be a trick and with the curve of them, I would be really hard to replicate if you mess up the originals. I stopped working on the wooden cabin top while I do the fiberglass cloth/poly covering. I know when I get back to it the front top of the cabin top is going to have to be formed from a solid block in order to have any hope of making it look like the original, but it's actually been a really fun little project so far.

Assuming the Fiberglass cabin top is the same size as the original clear top. Instead of cutting the the clear windows out piece by piece. I would just cut the clear top in half lengthwise, right in the middle. The cut should give enough relief for gluing the two halves inside the Fiberglass top.

I have reservation in using the Fiberglass top as the windows won't be flush outside. It doesn't look that good inside. Adding un-necessary weight in the wrong place. What doesn't make sense is : it seem like one is destroying a perfect good looking part in order to create a not-so-good-looking cabin top with lots of complication to follow.
