I do kite aerial photography KAPing and need a four channel radio to control the kite lifting camera rig. Since its not an aircraft, I think it would be safer to use a surface frequency. Just so I don't shoot down a model aircraft. Can I use surface frequency crystals in something like a Flash 4 transmitter and a Feather receiver? Will it work?

Thanks, Tom

The only suface use radios with more than 3 channels are the Laser 4 & 6. You cannot just plug in 75mhz crystals into a 72mhz system.

However, you are really using it for air use so you should be OK on 72mhz if you want to use the Flash.

Ok, thanks Mike.

I'm going to use my Flash 5 and just be darn careful if I'm anywhere near a flying field.

Any chance you have any information on how far the range could be with a Flash 5? I know that if you can see the model, you should be able to control the model ( or in this case, shoot it down). I'm just thinking, what is the closest proximity I could get to an airfield with a Flash 5 turned on and not shoot anyone down on that frequency.

3-5 miles is a safe distance.
