My most reliable souce of scale detail is my 1/48 scale Tamiya Corsair. Anything I measure from it I multiply by 6 for my 1/8 Top Flite Corsair that I currently building.

The scale detail I need to consider next are the non-functional rocket mounts under the wing tip panels. It's hard to describe them in words, so I attached a picture of them...

The dimension are a little hard to see because I had to shrink the image. Each base is about 1-3/4" x 3/4" x 3/16" and the actual mounts protudes about 3/4" out of the bottom of the wing. Do you think they cause excessive drag or change the flight characteristics much?

I haven't really thought about how I'm going to make these things or even what material to make them with. But assuming have these things assembled, would gluing them on the 1/16" balsa wing skin be sufficient? Or would I have to anchor them from inside the wing (in fear of them ripping off in flight).

What the heck... while I'm at it, should I also cut out those 3 empty shell holes?

Let me show of the scale ribs that I already did. One pair of those rocket mounts would go on the fore end and the aft end of the two inner most scale ribs. The other pair would be further inboard.

Juice : I have four 5" HVAR scale rockets on each wing on one of my Byron Corsairs. I made the mounts out of hard balsa and just glued them to the bottom wing skin. There is a slot in each mount that lets a small black wire tie go through it and the wire ties hold the rocket to the mount. The mount has a round sanded into it that matches the diameter of the rocket so the wire tie keeps the rocket on a "seat". The wire ties actually look pretty scale and they keep the rocket mounted nice and tight. I can use a small screw driver to lelease the lock if I want to take them off of the wing. I made the rockets out of model rocket tube stock and used model rocket nose cones too. I made the fins out of balsa. That thing really looks loaded for bear with the eight rockets on board. From all of the documentation I can find the rockets were OD green with two yellow bands near the front, the fins are black and the tip of the rocket is yellow. Make sure each set of mounts are 90 degrees to the wing centerline. My plane is slower with the rockets on it but it does not fly any different. Good luck!

Thanks Jack... I'm going to do up the rockets after the Corsair is built and flown. But I at least want to put in those rocket mounts so that I don't have to hack up the monocote (and the wing skin) later.
