Thanks Ghost and we now have a new buzz word in the shop, BLING!! its short, sweet and to the point, great word

I got the propeller to day that we will be using for flight, I also have a prop that I will use for display, its larger and more scale but I have been told that the 26 size engine will not turn it very well, any way I thought I would plate both of them in our seamless aluminum. The only problem I see is with the flying prop, I hope the plating will not have any negative effects on it such as weight or if the plating process will weaken the prop so I will do some test before we attach it to the engine. I will keep you posted on this one

Ron,
I would just paint the flying prop with silver as then there would be no problems with the prop in flight.

Thanks Tom, its amazing, I spend a hundred hours on replicating a Gamma and it doesn't have the WOW factory until you get some paint on it

I wasn't sure if I was going to like the colors that were used on the Chief but when I stand back and look at it as a whole, I like the way it brings out the high lights of the plane

Ghost-- You know me, I just cant take the easy way out of anything I do

but just in case I have purchased 2 flying props, one will be plated and sent off to be tested, because we are still testing our Metals on different substrates we were wondering what if any effect does our plating process have on the strength of plastics. We will bring the prop up and over its normal RPM range and see what happen

if it fails at least we will be able to inform a customer that its only for display use on items such as a prop. Personally I don't think it will have any effect at all but then again I'm not an engineer, I will keep you posted and get some pictures up soon

Yes I know, just that ballancing the prop after plating may be a problem. If you can get it to work it would just add that bit more impressive.

I have been folowing your posts. you are NOT just the only ones interested in the "GAMMA". I am Finally finishing mine. I have a 1/6 scale from cordys flying circus that i picked up at a swap meet 10 yrs ago. It looks as though your bird will be about the same size as mine. Just as you, I got carried away with the construction and have added many extra details to this classic bird. I hope to post some pics VERY soon! Untill then.... Keep up the Fantastic work!! (refering to your past models)

Mark, we are far and few. I know that there is a following of the golden era birds but I think the younger people like the war birds and jets today. Still I must admit that some of the most beautiful looking planes came from the 30's, it just took me awhile to appreciate the lines and innovation. Mark do you have the single seater Sky Chief or the two seater like Sparky's Ellsworth?

I fired the engine up today and with just a few small carb adjustments it was running great. The muffler I made sounds real nice. I did a few full test after I ran a tank of gas and with a 16-8 prop It was pulling 13 lbs. I will finish the break in period with a 30-1 oil mix and then go to the recommended 40-1. I think the 26 will pull a total of 14 to 15 when all is said and done. I should be posting more pictures soon.

What prop and what RPM? Will you bring it to Toledo? It should be shared with the modelers.

Sparky last year I was suppose to bring the P-38 to Toledo but due to an overlap in my schedule I had to cancel, but this year I am going to bring the P-38 and the Gamma, just hope I dont have the same problem as last year. The prop I started the engine with is a APC 16x8 Pattern Propeller that we aluminum plated

we are still doing some test on this but so far it has held together perfectly, Joe from Build right Fly right hobbies wanted me to start with this and after its initial break in we will do some test with other prop sizes to get the best pull and head temps. I will keep posting as the testing progresses.

Ron,
On my Gamma with the OS 1.60. APC 18x6wide turns around 8200 rpm. The nice thing about that prop is tha it acts as an airbrake on final when you pull her down to idle.

Sparky if I remember correctly you also said that your engine-prop setup gives you more than enough power to fly scale, I will relay this information to Joe. You have been more than helpful in the setup of my Gamma, again I have to thank you, the CG you gave me was right on

This is the 16-8 prop after we plated in our SEAMLESS aluminum plating, I also plated a larger prop for static use.

Thats what all the hard work, time and effort we put into a model is for. It looks unbelievable that it is a timber model. Hoe did the props go for balance after plating?
