I have just started on my Midwest ME109 and plan to paint a German camo on it and wanted fabric to take the paint better than plastic sheeting type stuff, Who knows who makes good fabric that I can find in Gray at least, The closest coverite makes is silver and I don't know who else makes that kind of stuff, Would hate to have to use white and paint the whole thing, A base color would be good.

Thanx

Any of the tex's is good, Solartex, Worldtex, Colortex etc. You can get them in white, neautral or natural, cream, or many other colors. You could also use fabric covering like the real aircraft use, obtain from Spruce Specialties, as they have a very light weight one that is heat shrinkable but requires you to apply the glue to the structure yourself before aplying the fabric. I often use Solartex from BalsaUSA because of its strength and ease of use as well as being quite economical.

Does anyone know the weight of Solartex per square foot? How does it compare to Coverite Fabricote??? Also to put a trim stripe on Solartex covering can I just slap a strip of trim colored Solartex over the main covering??? ..... or do I have to paint it on?? Thanx

Edwin, How do you tape it off, there are some solid lines on the sceme I plan to do and wondered if it would leak through the tape being fabric, I am going with the olive drab and painting on the gray on the fuse and painting the camo on the wings.

Thanx again

Solartex is the best as far as I'm concerned! Tape it off with the blue tape and you'll be ok.

I just finished covering my bipe using oracover fabric. It's not what I'm used to, but after I got familiar with it, It was a joy to work with.

It is a semi-tacky tape made by 3M.

You can find it in auto parts stores in various widths. Kinda expensive, but it does the job. I bought a thin (1/4 inch) width tape and then layer it with a masking tape and newspaper combination. The edge of the blue tape is where the paint color will change and the masking tape and newspaper keep the spray off of areas that I don't want painted!!!. The masking tape is just used to connect the blue tape to the newspaper paint shield.
