You guys dont know how to figure out your internal gear ratio? I see why DTX owners get a bad wrap

Anyways, the evaders are 2.67, actually its like 2.66666666666666667 but normally you round off so you would use 2.67 in your caculations.

I was told that only administratiors and Moderators can make a thread sticky. I can't do anything. You'll need to ask a moderator to do so.

It's stuck.

Also, I'd like to see if we can make the guts of this into a how to for the magazine. An article would be great. We could have the spreadsheet on it and I'm also looking at the possibility of building some kind of online calculator to do the math right here on RCU if possible.

If you guys like these ideas I need some help with both.

I've never attempted it, but I THINK Flash can do the math the spreadsheet requires. I'll give it a shot tomorrow and see if I can make something work.

I wonder if Excel and export a formula in HTML? Magic 8-ball says outlook not so good

flash would be great. if not we could try to do it in cold fusion right here on the website. I also know some flash but would have to learn some of the calc features. My partner michael might be able to whip up a page to calc this in coldfusion quickly with some guidance on the formulas and flow

Excel will indeed output interactive stuff, but it sets off every alarm that Norton has, plus XP SP2 has a cow over tapping the Active-X components through IE. 99% of the users here would probably have a cow if we tried to push that kind of content lol

A quick glance at Flash tells me it'll do what we want, but I don't think it'll be simple. I'll get it working though =)

If you can put together a written article with all the info summarized from this thread into one document we can format it and get it into the magazine. if we can attach a spreadsheet or a flash calculator or online calculator we can add that too. we are looking into best way to get this piece done. contact me via PM if you have questions and we can work on getting something cool together on this. RCU sees the brushless/lipo/car revolution being big and we want to continue to provide tools and an open forum to push the envelope more than anyone in this area.

Pan car gearing should follow the same concept, except with less steps..

1.) Get your tire's circumference (C)
2.) Divide the spur by pinion (G)
3.) Subtract C from G and follow the torque vs. top end guidelines we've been talking about.

Same thing, cept you'd skip the calculation that deals with the internal gearbox reduction.

Thanks to SpeedMunkey and Skrapiron!!

Munkey,

I just tried to PM you what I've got so far. But it won't let me. PM me with your E-mail address and I'll send you a copy.

Wow, the gear selector page is great!!!!! I'm really happy with the results!

I dont think that works right though.

On my 10l the tires are 2.9" diameter, so that would be 9.106" circumference. Im running about 4-1 gearing and it smokes the tires.

Same with my bolink, its tires are about 8.15" circ. Im running 5-1 gearing on it and it easily smokes the tires even on a stock motor.

Aliens8mycow is running around 2-1 gearing with his, he has a brushless setup though.

This sounds lik eim way overgeared, but you should see these cars get up and go, and the motors barely get hot.

I think I'm going to edit the article, and use your speed calculator verbatim. It's alot less convoluded than my explaination. Although we get the same results, yours is easier to understand.

Dang according to the gear wizzard my Evader with the stock pin & spur in @ -1.695. Looks like i may have to to the LHS and get diff spurs & pinion's.

The stock Evader gearing, for the photon is deliberately undergeared. It is done so to compensate for the lack of performance of the Photon motor. You will do better to tinker with the pinion gear to get a baseline. From there, you can fine tune it with a new spur gear.

Welcome to a bright new world!
