Status: online 		Congrats Marty on the maiden flights! Wait til you try to put together a big fatty bipe like the aeroworks! I leave my bipe together and it fits inside my van no problem. If you have a small car you'll have to at least take off the top wing. This can be done with only 6 screws instead. I use a hex ball driver on the 4-40 cabane bolts and it goes pretty quick. The trick to the aileron wires is having the slot in the upper wing just wide enough to slide the connectors up into the cavity when positioning the wing. The only other option is to run your wires on the outside of the cabane. I didn't want to do that on the design as I thought it would be ugly and problematic on the wires with them bouncing around. Make sure you have maximum aileron authority and the snaps and spins will be fine.

I designed this plane to fly a lot like a precision bipe, more like the giant scale bipes. This is not a "kite" with a super low wing loading that only hangs on the prop. Therefore it won't float much like the other OMP profiles. Once you get used to the flying characteristics you will find it will fly more like a precision bipe yet still hang with the 3d boys and hold it's own. Keep us posted as you dial in this Ultimate.

It looks good dude...you did a nice job!

Yeah no matter what bipe you have, from 4-40 ACE bipe to a WWI 1/4 sopwith Pup to a Carlgoldberg Ultimate......THEY ARE ALL A PAIN to put together but are SO worth it to FLY!


Be glad you can at least leave it together!

I'm glad you guys said that this is not a floater...I was hoping to hear that it was.....but I guess not. At least it's not a brick!

Again...good job on your ultimate martyg...

Status: online 		Believe it or not Wagas there is such a thing as too light a wing loading. There's a place for a floating kite like plane and a place for a more precision airframe that performs better all around. I designed the OMP Ultimate differently than my other profiles in that it's closer to a more traditional giant scale look and feel in the air. I think I was successful as it will easily fly through all the IMAC and pattern sequences yet still excel at 3d. Yes I'm biased!

Here are a couple of pics in case you guys are looking for ideas.

Got 4 more solid flights today, after a few post-maiden adjustments in the shop.
Still dialing it in, but this is definitely a good flying plane.
I'll try a 16x4W prop next time out, just for grins.

Solid core door on sawhorses with ceiling tile on top.
Make sure everything is dead flat (with a straightedge) every time you start a new subassembly!

Should run you about $40-50.

question about the thrust line.
it's not drawn over the full length of the plan.
if i extend it from the front i end up somewhere between the bottom
of the horizontal stab and the servopushrod.
is that where it is?
also i have the feeling my fuse shrunk a little. the outline on the
plan is 1/8 th larger than the actual capped fuse.
i didn't sand much there.
oh well, my first slab.
i'm also puzzled what tool to use to cut out the openings
for the enginemount, stab and landing gear block to get a nice cut,
especially the vertical across the sheeting grain.
appreciate any hints,

Draw it out on the plans, then transfer to the model. Location isn't obvious.
Where you have it sounds about right.

No big deal. Mine was that way too.
When all else fails, build to the parts, not the plans.

A plain hobby knife with a fresh blade has always worked for me.
The Dremel router attachment and an assortment of bits can also come in handy.

was easier than i thought. foam cuts nicely with a fresh blade.
now i got to get that solid core door to start the wings.
my gp building board is warped badly.
