Status: offline 		Just tried to spin up my 35 again...
with rotorblades mounted it starts shaking pretty bad at high rpm... without blades the rotorhead seems stable .. guess i have to balance my blades .. right ??

The main gearwheel is moving slightly up and down at low rpm - like it's not perfectly alligned with the drive-axel - can this be adjusted ??

I'm considering to build some sort of training pod... something like a wheel-bearing from a bike (vertical) and a modified camera tri-pod with ball-joint .. I surpose the helicopter could then move pretty realistic... I have i mind to place this whole setup on a gram-scal digital kitchen-weight to recognize when the helo would be at hover... has anyone made/bought/tried such a setup ... does it make sense ??

Also couldn't resist playing with the gyro.... It gets totally unstable it the sensitivity screw is not put correctly ... but actually it seems to work (on the floor) - but I have to adjust the rear rotor servo travel as the helo goes Extremely fast one way - and quite slow the other way ....

How much (degrees) should the rotorhead be able to pitch/roll ?? mine moves so much that some of the mechanical parts hits the servo-arms in the most extented positions ...

I have a little servo jittering on the collective pitch servo - but I don't think it's critical - is there any easy way to remove the jitter or is it just a crappy TX/RX unit ???

By the way.. HJ2000 returned My 20 $ for the gyro update which they forgot... also they offered me the chance to send back my battery and charger !! ... I decline as I have allready modified the charger cable and dissasembled the batt to figure out what was wrong...

Status: offline 		THNX FOR ALL THE INFO GENTLEMEN, BOUGHT A #35 TO TRY TO GET MORE FLYING TIME IN. BOUGHT #35 BECAUSE OF PRICE. SOUNDS TO ME LIKE I WILL BE WORKING ON IT MORE THAN FLYING IT. HAVE A KYSHOBO NITRO W/FUTUBA 6XH. MAYBE SHOULD JUST SWITCH ELECTRONICS OVER TO RUN W/FUTUBA. HAVEN'T GOT IT IN AIR YET BUT WILL KEEP POSTED W/MY EXPERIENCE WITH IT.

Status: offline 		I would recommend switching the electronics (reciever, servos, etc) if i could. the walkera electronics are inferior.

set the gear lash at both the motor and tail rotor, i feel that they come overly tight from the factory.

as with any heli,check blade balance and tracking, and check the CG (35 seems a bit tail heavy)

we have purchased 3 walkera products in the last few month, all have needed work and walkera, despite repeated emails refuses to even acknowledge our existance. we will not purchase any more of their products in the future, and my recommendation is for others to avoid them as well.

having said that, the 35 can be a fine machine, it just takes work, time, and money.

note: be careful for that servo twitch, it can be a disaster waiting in the wings (no pun intended)

check for interference, try to move the wires around. what we did is we swapped the twitchy servo with a stable one to see if the receiver was bad, or the servo. in this case it appears that my 35 shipped with a bad servo.

3 flight tests, RIGHT!

1. sim program doesn't recognize trans.
2.one tail blade was mounted backwards
3.gearlash was too tight
4.throttle switch on back of trans set wrong,motor wouldn't run
5.mounted stock batt as far fowrd as possible,might have to add weight to get good cg
6.batt almost too hot to touch after only 20 min. on charger

got the 400sd motor, still have to do breakin,set blade tracking (way off), probably ck blade balance while i'm at it,both pots are functioning,will attempt to
use my futuba manual to figure out settings

noj, definitely use training gear when attemping first flights, manufactured ones have rotating balls on ends which allow heli to skim ground, this helps to get servos tuned. Also from what I've read it is easy to strip out rudder gears even contacting grass. i have a "rotopod" for my 30 that i'm going to try to use, gets heli up off the ground.T-Rex runs nice belt drive, was too cheap to buy it.
Good thing I like a challenge because it looks like from all the posts I've got myself one!
will probably be at least a week if not 2 before i even attempt to hover & will definitely post my experiences doing that.

Status: offline 		some good news here, if i dont jinx myself...
despite the plastic tail rotor gears, we have had no problems with any of the gears on the 35s. the 22a has a different main gear, and it eats them up in minutes.
so far, the 35 gears have been fine.

be careful with setting that DIP switch on the back for the pots to work, i have not read about it, but Bhermer mentioned something about it setting wrong mode. the pots do nothing on either of our 35s. we did have a problem with servos and reversals, turned the CCPM switch off. which fixed the reversal problem, but, without the CCPM the heli wont fly.

get the training gear! if you must, you can easily fashion your own with rubber bands, super glue, and wire coat hangars. i did not do this, and its probably cost one at least one blade gripper!

i DID read about the dip switch settings, just have not experimented with that one. Bhermer made a post about it, might try to search it out, or ill post the link if i come across it again.

a semi related tip that can save a bit of money (thus leaving more for parts....)

instead of fancy training gear and all that....i should have put both together, lol......anyway, heres a cheap and eay way to build a helipad

6x6 foot piece of scrap linoleum turned upside down. make some circles appx diameter of main rotor blades. can be in any pattern you want. i made look like a die showing the '5', ergo one circle on each corner and one in the middle.

just use marker, get as elaborate or as basic as you want. turn the linoleum upside down, some has patterns in it that the skids/training gear can catch on.
its slick so that you can get it light on skids and practice hitting those circles.

for TG you can just cut some wire coat hangars up and bend up the ends so they dont catch on anything, or stick ping pong ball, or styrofoam ball, on the ends....
again, you can get as elablorate or stay as basic as you want.

makes for a nice heli pad setup while you learn, and saves a few dollars to spend on parts when the learning curve gets a lil steep!

I bought a Walkera 35 6 ch heli on ebay from Hobby_RC. It was delivered in 4 days from Hong Kong to Perth Western Australia which is super fast.
I paid extra and bought a 1200Mah 11.1V Lipo battery and charger. I first tried to fly it and it wouldnt get off the ground. After fully reading the manual I had to adjust the gear mesh between the motor gear and tail gear by adjusting the screw on the boom. The heli hovered very stable even in quite heavy winds. I did notice that if I put in tail movement it seemed to load up the motor and start to drop in height. It cost me $420 AUD landed at my door including the extra $50 for the lipo battery and charger. For the price it flies ok I havent tried to flip it upside down yet with the idle up switch. The reciever gets hot because it also has the speed controller in it. I have had excellent communication from the ebay seller and he has replaced 2 servos that are gittery. The heli crashed and it damaged the skids and tail gear. He has sent replacement parts free of charge. The plastic blades were slightly out of track and I adjusted them as per the manual. I have bought a 2400Mah 11.1V lipo which should give about 20min flight time. for $60 with a charger it is a lot cheaper than buying locally. I also bought a 4ch Walkera heli which I havent been able to even hover yet because it vibrates out of control. Hobby_RC on ebay have sent me a complete replacment 4 ch heli so I can't complain about the great service. With the 6 ch heli it is fine for someone learning to fly as you do alot less damage when it crashes. I have been flying helis for 10 years and have a Raptor50SE and Raptor90SE. I do most of the 3D moves. There is are a few guys here in Perth who have upgraded their Zoom 400 with hacker motors better servos etc and do full 3D with ease. I will probably slowly upgrade the Walkera too. Probably the first upgrade will be the belt drive conversion. It doesn't take much the strip the tail shaft gear that runs off the main motor gear if the tail blades touch the ground while they still spinning.

Status: offline 		I found ou that my 35 had a bended CP arm (pinano wire through the main shaft)... It looked to me like it must have been bend at the time when the bottom "main-shaft-clamp" (don't know what it's called) was tightend... this caused vibrations because the CP was moving all the time....

I had to disassemble the whole body of the helo - because the bearing-attachments (allen-screws) where tightend beyond the screws capability .... now it looks more like I'm going to learn to build a helicopter before I will even try to get in the air.... so much for the "fly-out-of-the-box" concept... Anyway it's actually quite much fun to see how every part is working ... just not what I had in mind when I bought it...

Does anyone know if I can modify my TX to run mode 2 instead of mode 1 ?? ... I gues I need to move my throttle to Left Up/Down stick instead of Right Up/Down stick - right ?? can this be done inside the TX (also have to move the spring from left to right stick)..

I think it's more logical to have pitch/roll on right stick - and throttle/rudder on left stick (that's mode 2 - right ??)

if your transmitter has plug in pots like mine you just pull the back off and take the spring plate for the throttle and swap it with the centering plate for the pitch channel on the other side. then just swap plugs side to side. it is pretty easy to see when you get it open. I swapped four of the 4channel transmitters from mode2 to mode1 a couple of weeks ago. also while you have it apart you can modify the throttle spring plate so it is friction only and does not drop into notches causing the "clicks" that you feel when throttling up and down.

Status: offline 		FYI people, On ebay people have started selling the dragonfly 35 as a '3D Explorer Stamina 400' I guess because of all the flak they have been getting on forums like this, so just for your info to anyone who has been put off by these posts, best not to buy one of these instead (Though I still llike mine, I managed to burn out the speed controller at the weekend when I upgraded the motor!!)

Further to my last posting I have made some changes to my Walkera #35 6 channel heli. I replaced the gear that drives the tail rotor and meshes with the motor main gear. The standard one is too soft and strips very quickly. That cost me $18.60 AUD for the microheli hardened blue gear. I also replaced the shaft that runs inside the boom and drives the tail rotor. Mine broke. That cost $19.00 for an upgraded alloy shaft. With that common problem fixed I changed the pitch and rudder servos as the Walkera servos were shaking badly.
Hitec HS-55 are a good choice which cost $26 AUD each and now the heli hovers and flies very nice. The ebay seller has sent me replacement GWS brand servos which are also ok. The heli hovers stable, the gyro works fine in heading hold, and I have flown it around in small circuits. With a good quality Lipo battery like a Kokam or PowerQuest around 15c and 1500Mah or higher you should get at least a 15 mintue flight. If you do buy a Walkera #35 6 channel helicopter I recommend Hobby_RC on ebay. He is based in Hong Kong and I have had excellent customer service from him. He has also totally replaced the 4 channel Walkera Heli I bought from him because it has vibration problems. He supplied my Walkera #35 6 channel heli with a 1200Mah Lipo battery and charger for an extra $40 AUD. That works ok but it has a 9c rating and gives me about 5 minutes before it loses power. I can fly again after about 10 minute wait for about another 5 minutes. He has since supplied me with a 10c Lipo 2400Mah battery.
