Are these Walkera Helis all knockoffs of others? If so, are they violating copyrights and patents (not that the Chinese care)? I did a quick search at ebay and saw they are all shipping from Hong Kong and the ones that aren't are being sold as used. This made me wonder about the copyright/patents. Are there any authorized US dealers?

I ordered mine off Ebay from a "dealer" who listed the heli as in the USA. Got an email from him stating he "ordered" it and would recieve in 3-4 days from HongKong and then ship top me (another 3-4days) So I don't think there are any in the USA. And from what I hear in forum, the patent issue is not recognized in China and Walkera only makes knock offs.

Yeah, I think there are some patent issues. I've talked to a couple of Chinese manufacturers about importing a fairly large batch of helis and other RC products and toys. They're all eager to sell them, but I think I could lose them to Customs. I don't think the guys selling them on ebay are acting as true importers.

walkera does in fact make knock offs.

which is ok, to a degree. the problem is that walkera does not support the knock offs.

in response to a prior post (sorry i dont have the poster ID available at this moment), some have wondered, why would i purchase such junk?

here is why.

I was introduced to RC helis by a friend. he had, at that time, a single honeybee 2 from ESKY. i strongly recommend esky, btw. walkera is junk. the company is junk, the product is junk, et al....find out for yourself.

after some research, i elected to buy a Dragonfly 22a from walkera.

after some weeks, and some poor assembly, and a chinese manual, and 2 stripped main gears (replacements were purchased thru helihobby.com...) - note, the stripped gears were NOT due to a wreck........

also, the manual was in chinese.......it was pretty clear that i am not chinese.

but, having seen my friends 35, i thought, well, the 35 is a different machine, made different, different gear set ups, all of that. so, i thought i would give them another chance.

i ordered a 35.

it came totally backwards (was specified as to what i desired for the money i paid)

2 servos, not one, but TWO, defective from factory.

had to right the assembly process, as the heli was delivered with numerous loose screws. as was my 22a.

i emailed walkera about it, twice. over a week later, i got gibberish in return.

this from someone who had actually supported them.

no more.

i still get emails daily, from all over the globe, asking of my experience with walker. almost each one starts with "i have read no good reviews of this heli...."

i advise them all to NOT DEAL with walkera.

my friends 35 also, came with a screwed up gyro. we never got a chance to mess it up. my 22a was the same way. my 35 was shipped with a functional gyro, but 2 bad servos. and loose screws.

note to newbies, the walkera radio system is backwards. i requested that throttle be on the left stick. i got one on the right. no problem, deal with it....
...but, you cant just go replacing servos on a walkera product, as they will 'run' backwards. and you cant reverse the servo cuz its not a 'real' xmitter.

i could go on and on.

if you are thinking of a walkera product, think again. or you too, will be posting like i am soon.

they are ALL knockoffs.

the 22a (we have one) is a knockoff of the hornet 2.

the 35 is a knockoff of the shogun 400. as shipped, it even has a '400' on the canopy.

you can believe me now, or believe me later, lol.

DONT order from walkera.

My TX is the normal mode 2 throttle on the left, but you could always open up the TX mod it to mode 2. I haven’t flown mine yet as I’m waiting for my Li-poly and charger but I will let you know how crap this is when I do (this is my first RC of anything) Lol

My experience with Walkera products have been good one so far. The electronics and parts are average (servos are low quality) but they can stand elements (dirt and mud from wet and dry grass, and water from bushes) in "combat enviroment" where they don't fail after coming in contact with the elements. My helicopters cover with mud stains like a off-road vehicle and I don't even bother to clean them up. The raining reason doesn't stop me from flying it outdoor daily.

Help!!!! I just bought a # 35 and wished I'd save the money for a T-Rex. Right out of the box the servos were all jittery and after hovering for a few seconds the thing took a mind of its own and took off full throttle with none of the controls working. I am assuming the servos are bad and maybe the receiver. What is the best receiver to get for this thing and do I have to get a speed controller to. Now what about the crystals, do I have to get a matching pair for the new receiver and my walkera transmitter. I am new at this and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am still waiting on my #35 to be delivered, but after reading all the posts in this forum and others - I decided to play it safe. After alot of research I decided to order new electrics. I bought the following items which all seemed to be highly recommended.

Thunder Power 1320mah LiPo from LHS $50
400DH brushless motor, MMM25 ESC, connectors & pinions from Justfly.com $100
Hitec Electron6 reciever w/ crystal to match my Futaba 7CHP transmitter $65 from Tower Hobbies
3 Hitec HS-55 servos for collective and cyclic $15ea from Tower Hobbies
1 Hitec HS-50 servo for tail rotor $25 from Tower Hobbies

I've heard the Walkera Gyro is a JR knock off and works well.....if it don't I'll order a Futab GY401 $139 at Tower Hobbies

The crap of it all is that for what I paid for the Walkera #35 with its crap electronics I could have bought a real Shogun or T-Rex kit. I would have bought the same electronics anyway.....oh well, lessen learned. Maybe I will try the crappy Walkera electrics in a foam plank.

Also, I believe the ESC is located in the reciever, therefore you would have to by an ESC if you change the reciever.

Good Luck,
Rob

Hi rwithey,

I know you are replacing your TX too, but for others out there who are thinking about a speed controller upgrade it is worth noting, If you replace the Speed contoller (seperate speed controller for brushless as an example) on the #35 and not the whole reciever, then you will lose idle up mode (switch on the top right of the TX) and only be able to fly in the simulated FP mode (N on the switch).

I am just in the middle of the belt conversion on mine to get rid of that awful tail assembly (had enough of stripping gears everytime I land on the grass!), and if you guys are interested I will supply some pics when I am done!

I got the parts from ebay, they were £15, BUT there is a hell of a lot of work to do, you have to cut down the two pulley wheels, cut your see saw down and attached bodged servo arms and dremel the chassis apart!! The drill sizes you have to drill the bits out to are odd sizes too. If you have a work shop, with a pillar drill etc then the mods aren't to hard, but tey do take time and you have to strip the whole heli down.
