Hey all, i am going to be in the area of Altus Oklahoma ( ALTUS AFB ) from early march to who knows when. I am looking to see if there are any jet flyers in this are or any fields that are suitable for jets (AD F-16). I will be there for my c-5 flight engineer flight training. Thanks in advance! Nick

Pantherflyr,

Why would you want to go to Altus ...lol We do have at my last count 4 guys in OK that fly jets including my self. Richard and I are in Tulsa, Don and Jim are in Oklahoma City. When you get out here I am sure we would all love to fly with you. We do have some nice fields in this half of the state (Not sure about out west) The best site for jets is most likely Muskogee, they use a old full scale airport. All the Runway you could need. I fly off 500ft in east Tulsa. You are also close to the guys in Lubbock and I think they fly at the old T-38 base.

Let us know when you make it out.

Dave

Would definitely like to get together some time.

Actuly there are 4 more people than listed above for a total of 8

Lary Raule has a viper,
David Quy has a SM F-18, SM-F15, Turbine Heli HP5 (Going to be a MD 500)
Rick Coleman has a Eurosport

I have a Turbine Bell 230, SM F-18, and Eurosport.

There are several airports in the western part of the state that double as model fields. This makes it easier for me as I can fly my Baron to these places and then fly my R/C.

wow... it is like you two are breeding turbine pilots over there. I am very glad to see we are getting so many in the state. We just need a few more over this way.

There is also a guy in OKC who has been looking for a place to fly his award winning F-104,
by the name of Bob Lundstrom.

Does he have a waiver? You know it is the old fart thing.

So far we have been able to fend off the old farts at our field.

I remember Bob put on a Turbine demonstation with his F-104 at Sundance airport about 2 years ago for one of the WestSide RC meetings (I made it in time to see him loading it back into his van ). It was pretty windy conditions and I think he also had a small mechanical problem so he only did a few taxi runs, didn't get to fly it that day. But I havn't seen or heard anything about him since.

Don and Jim, no big deal I was just being funny. LOL

I have flown my Turbine B-230 a few times at sundance.

We also have a Cessna 421 and Piper Navajo that we fly out of sundance and the few people who btch at us for flying the toy's are usualy the one's with a home-built or 1950 Cessna 150, you have unhappy wanna-be's in every hobby.

So you still have old farts even with the full size planes!!

I know Gary Varnell used to fly R/C and he is the one who owns Sundance Airport. But over the years sundance has become more and more active to the point I would not fly fixed wing there.

Watonga and paulls valley are both R/C friendly low activity full size airports. I think Cordell is also, which is north of altus approx 30-40 miles.

Like dave said earlier the best dedicated R/C field is hatbox which is paved 4000 + feet long.

And mike you know were were only kidding when I left you out!

Hey Don, How is that JetCat P120 running?

We will have to get together this year. It looks like we can have well over a dozen jet fliers together for an Okie fly-in.

Jim,
Sounds good to me. I installed the P-120 I got from you in my Bobcat and have test run it just once. It fired up very nice and has a ton of power. Should probably fly it sometime in March. I will get back with you before too long and see if we can get together there and have us a turbine good time!!!! See ya, Don....
